Game On! Stoke v Newcastle

Game On at The Britannia Stadium.
Newcastle take on Stoke City this evening for what is a non-televised midweek encounter, possibly of the fourth kind.

Why the fourth kind you might say? Well simply because United are bidding to avoid defeat for the fourth game in a row for the first time in over four years.

Will we or won’t we? We’ll soon find out although I’m at the point now where I expect nothing from a team that has looked short on confidence, short on effort and devoid of ideas for a number of weeks now. Worrying times, especially when you consider the strength of our opponents on their own turf and the injury list we have to contend with at the moment.

The game is not being shown live here in the UK although there are a number of overseas channels who are broadcasting the match. Which means normal rules apply regarding streams, meaning basically if you happen to find a good one then please feel free to share it by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

I’m actually at work right now so team news will be supplied by Big Dave as and when it becomes available. As ever it will be added in at the bottom of this article.

Which just about wraps it up really. My match preview is online here for you to read if you haven’t already done so. It features some grim injury news for United, a history of meetings between the two sides with some stats and facts thrown in for good measure.

Howay the lads!

Stoke: Begovic; Shotton, Shawcross (c), Huth, Cameron; Walters, Whelan, Nzonzi, Adam, Etherington; Crouch.

Subs: Sorensen, Palacios, Jones, Whitehead, Upson, Kightly, Jerome

Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini (c), Santon; Anita, Tiote, Perch, Gutierrez; Cisse, Ba.

Subs: Elliot, Tavernier, Ferguson, Bigirimana, Marveaux, Sammy Ameobi, Ranger.

  1. Big D you are spot on there, I take it all back regarding Cisse, he has put in a brilliant defensive shift in second half, and scored a cracking goal.

  2. **** man Tiote scares me at times…

    Oh man Cisse… 🙁

We are our own worst enemies sometimes. Come on, keep up our concentration !

  3. Sorry like, both of our centre halves looked **** poor there …. 😥

We looked in no danger at 1-0 and our midfield couldn’t stem the tide….ran out of power at the end of the day…

  4. Grim. Players actually seemed to have the fire this game and that’s going to drain all their remaining confidence.

  5. Whatever people say, there is one difference from the relegation season, this team seem to care. Whether that’s enough I don’t know 🙁

  6. Well the effort was there, but we are dreadfully short of class at the moment.

    The best team won.

  7. One thing I will say-I’m not sure if some of our bloggers also got mixed up, I know the commentators did-but Anita did fucking shitloads of work, more so than both the forwards, he ran the whole match.

  8. Just seen Cisse’s goal ,lovely bit of poaching that. Krul had no chance for the 1st goal and very nearly kept out their second.

  9. Typical Willo. As soon as it comes down to critical moments in the game he goes missing. Lost both of the headers for each of the goals 🙁

Just watching the highlights, man was Williamson deep for the second goal. he got sucked right in… 🙁

Man what a disappointing result, I was confident of surviving, then a big lump up the middle turned the game round… hoof-ball I think they call it,

  10. Dave-Did I say that? No, I didn’t. But for me Anita did a lot. Cisse did track back well, but imo Anita chased their backline down more than anyone else.

  11. Still overall a better performance than last match. Just shame Ranger is there. Tells me all I need to know about how desperate we are. Would rather a reserve forward.

  12. Well we need at least 4 points out of the wigan and fulham games before we fo kn the xmas run against the big guns, otherwise we’ll be in relegation sone for New Year. I agree with trumpet, we were purring in some graft today and the win will have done wonders. Having been turned over in the final 10 may have just destroyed what self belief our squad had left… I’m worried now. We need quality signings in January, in defence and on the wing or we are going down I reckon.

  13. oh well 1 down 2 to go.
A better performance but still no points.
Replace willo in Jan and we just may survive.
Cant see anyone buying Tiote anytime soon, he’s a fucking disaster
    Bring on Wigan 😕

  14. MM-Losing headers to stoke is no surprise. The whole side was sleepy and sloppy for both imo. Should never have got the crosses away.

  15. But maybe we actually were tired this time, given that the same players have played 3 games recently…… 😯

  16. Would have been nice for Pards to make the subs earlier too. I know it sounds a bit fickle, but I thought Sammeobi or Ranger should have come on for Ba or Cisse or Jonas, just to give some more pace or something, we were slowing down.

  17. Sorry but tioe was at fault for the first, gave the ball away on the edge of the stoke box and let Walters breeze past him to head in the second, in fact Tiote was ****, i lost count of how many times he gave the ball away. Anita looked good as did cisse, but i have to question the substitutions. they should have bin made well before stoke scored.

  18. why leave the substitutions to 85th min ❓
we were obviously tiring after the 1st goal went in.
    meh

  19. Shamrock@207 totally agree ,that last 10 mins will be a crushinf blow to confidence.I hope Pards makes them watch the period after we scored so they can see how much better we are with some self belief ,it’s defo partly a confidence issue ,cause you could see the panic set in after their goal that didn’t happen much last season.

  20. thought on there 2nd goal collos lack of pace was there for all the world and the wife to see, where the hell was he and how comes he 5 yards away from the dude

  21. Well I’m as pissed off now as I was before kick off. Players put in a better shift tonight than they did at the weekend, but I said it beforehand and I still think it was our downfall tonight. There just wasn’t enough creative flair in the team tonight. I can only remember maybe 3-4 chances, and I know we’re away from home but that’s not enough man!.

My fear now is that I still don’t see Pardew changing things against Wigan, and as a result I see the result going the same way I’m afraid.

Wonder what the odds of Newcastle and Liverpool being in the bottom 3 on News Day is? 😯

  22. TAE – dont forget he’s having to cover for that **** willo most of the time.
He really needs another quality CB alongside him.

      (Quote)

  23. Sell Tiote and play Cabaye as a defensive midfielder. Discuss.
(obviously not when we’re so low on numbers, but in principle)

      (Quote)

  24. <<<<<<<<<<<, is sick of hearing peeps sticking up for collos lack of pace pit ponys him and williamson

      (Quote)

  25. yes, i agree Tiote was to blame, reckless pass that lead to their goal. we looked the better side until then…but he did set up our goal..

At least we showed a bit of fight, hopefully its not too late to save our season.

Anita was a little warrior, much improved. Willo was pap!

    Ranger!?!? 😯
