Does Colo really want to leave Newcastle?

Tyneside days numbered for Colo?
Tyneside days numbered for Colo?
There is no way you haven’t seen the rumours regarding Fabricio Coloccini apparently wanting to leave United.

If you have missed them then where have you been?

There is an awful lot of confusion about this. The general consensus appears to be that the rumour is true, with the Evening Chronicle seeming to verify the reports, but there are other outlets around, such as BBC Newcastle and the agent of Coloccini, who are saying that it isn’t true.

You can make up your own mind but I guess the only way we will find out is by giving it time, which is something we don’t have too much of in a January transfer window. I would guess the teamsheet at Carrow Road tomorrow may give us a clue and if Colo isn’t involved I’d say that is pretty much a confirmation that something isn’t quite right.

Personal reasons and a rumoured split with his wife are being mentioned, but then there is that word again – rumour. Wouldn’t it just be best for the manager or the player or the club to come out and say something to clear it up one way or the other?

Colo leaving us now would be very much like a rat deserting a sinking ship. Happy to sign a lucrative new deal less than 12 months ago when things were going well yet when the going gets tough he seemingly wants to quit.

The problem Colo has is that the club who are rumoured to be after him – San Lorenzo – wouldn’t be able to offer us enough money to make a deal worthwhile from a club perspective and they also wouldn’t be able to offer him anywhere near the salary he currently receives. I want a Ferrari but my finances don’t stretch that far and San Lorenzo are in a similar situation.

Undoubtedly it is bad news which means that it is usually true, but I don’t think it is as clear as the press are making it out to be. For some obscure reason I still think Colo will be a United player come February 1st but that is only a gut feeling and I’ve been hopelessly wrong with those before.

Time will tell I guess…

He’s wanting to return to save his marriage.

@MsiDouglas: …Cheick Diabate (Bordeaux). Not sure if they’re looking at pre-contract for summer or not. Over-shadowed by Colo news obv.

  10. Dave- I think its fair to say none of the more negaitve ones on here predicted us anywhere near 5th last season. i remember most saying mid- table at best.

The fact is that we are, and were last season, an inconsistent team who, when things go right as they did last season, can finish in the upper third of the league, but is also capable of finishing in the bottom thrid when things go wrong as they have this season.

As bad as it’s been this season I still think we’d be around 10th if we hadn’t lost Cabaye/Ben Arfa/Staylor for significant periods.

  14. MDS I think if you look back at last yrs prediction blog you’ll find I predicted top half, and I think you’ll find that most of the happy crew never got it right last year either so whats the difference.

As for your predictions of being in 10 th if we hadn’t lost players to injury, I would agree but I would also say if we had of strengthened the team like a lot of the neggars said we should have then their injuries wouldn’t have affected us as bad as it has but its all hind sight now

      (Quote)

  15. TGS thats a cracking rate your on, you must be well ranked up on it fella, I didn’t like it at first but some of the maps are good now I know where to camp 😆

      (Quote)

  16. well there is a bit of a difference between saying top half and predicting 5th or 6th as some did on here and got riduclued for it. The point I was making is that this team has been on a razor’s edge the past few years between very good and rather poor where one or two injuries (or a bit of bad luck) could make either side right or wrong.

Of course any club would be better of if it is strengthened. But it really can’t be denied that we have suffered a worse bout of long-term injuries to key players than anyone realistically could have forseen so I won’t hammer the club for not preparing for it. Now the club has a chance to deal with reality during this window and I will cirticise them if they don’t..

(I’ll give you CB which all of us have wanted stregthened going back 4-5 years at least.)

      (Quote)

  17. MDS I can’t recall anyone predicting 5th or 6th 🙄 I don’t even think Wolfie predicted that ❓
Yeah I get your point about no one really fore seeing the injuries but we have always known Saylor is prone, as for Benny well he was missing for most of last year so can’t really count on him so the only player you named really has been Cabaye

      (Quote)

  18. Meant to add that while I agree that any side would be better strengthened, but after the season we had last and playing in the Europa we should have strengthened and imo it was total neglect not to and we are now paying the price for not doing it and I think we wel’ll still have to pay more for it

      (Quote)

  19. The board gambled on going with what we had in place in the summer ,noone can tell me they are so stupid that it never occured to them we might lose Saylor again given his record.Add to that the chance of a long term injury to Colo or other key players and without reinforcments we were always in a precarious position .It was bloody reckless at best and negligent and plain old fashioned tightarsed at worst ,but we always knew Jabba likes to play fast and loose with our beloved club . The only comfort from being relegated is that ,that shitbag will lose megabucks , scant cosilation though it is. 👿

      (Quote)

  20. Dave there were more than a few that had is 6th, myself included ( though i think I hedged and said 6-8th)

I’d count Raylor as a significant injury has he grabbed us more than a couple of points last season on freekicks alone. But it’s not that they shouldn’t be prepared for an injury or, its that it is tough forsee so many happening simultaneously and for such an extended period.

But injuries its not just injuries. We also lost collo and tiote on suspensions. Again, you have to prepared for those, especially Tiote, but added to the injuries it made it more difficult.

But we can go out and add a CB and a forward this window and that would be nice but it really doesn’t solve the bigger problem which IMO is coaching. As has been discussed the past few days, it is really shocking that none of our “youth” players have progressed tot he point where 2-3 could have stepped in and helped to ease the injury/suspension concerns. Plus Pards’ incredible refusal to play Ba on the left did this club a lot of harm

      (Quote)

  21. Mds ,Got to agree about Raylor ,was thinking the other day we’d of scored a few more with his free kicks .

      (Quote)

  22. MDS I am 99% sure that I went for 8th when I get time i’ll have a squint at it, but I still can’t recall anyone mentioning 5th 😉 .
the other thing is that I never heard Pards getting as much abuse last season or people questioning coaching etc there was no for sight from the happy crew on that 😆 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  23. Why would anyone criticize Pards last season when he had the club playing well and in the upper third of the table all season? i don’t remeber anyone giving him much grief on here for anything other than his press conferences.

This year there are numerous reasons to criticise him

  25. O’Hara has just came on for wolves and made an instant impact. I always thought he would be a good player to have in the squad with his work rate and passing ability. He takes a canny set piece as well.

Most of all though he would lift the lads moral…..they could all sit round telling stories of when they last tackled his misses!! 😆

  26. Evening everyone, bit late catching up like but afew things:

    1) Can’t believe how many people are so easy with allowing Colo to go . Personal reasons or not, we are in a relegation battle here like and having just lost our goals top end, we are now willing to let our best defender go.
    2) To those saying he deserves respect for staying with us when relegated – the bloke was paid £80k week during that season to be fair. He hardly suffered.
    3) The bloke has just thrashed out a new contract, which included making sure he had relevant funds for the orphanage he sponsors back in Argy – basically my point is we jumped through hoops to keep him and keep him happy.
    4) If what Troy says is true and he’s been caught out shagging about – what the hell do WE owe him?. If he’s ****** him marriage up, does that mean our season should be ****** up?!

If the reason he’s been playing ***** this season is down to marital problems caused by his infidelity then he goes way down in my estimation, coz he’s gonna leave us right in the ****. If his missus did leave him in Oct why has this only become a problem halfway through the bloody window?. If he goes – and he really shouldn’t!! – but if he does, we need 2 CB with at least 1 with EPL experience and ready to go straight away.

I am really not ok with this and am fucking foaming that we find ourselves in this position – it fucking stinks coz it is exactly what we don’t need right now.
Everyone is ready to jump on Pardew and the coaches for getting it wrong but stuff like this really can’t help matters – but it seems like Capt Colo and his humping ways can do no wrong?! 😕 👿

      (Quote)

  27. Sharpy as I said I am not surprised by this so I don’t feel as bad, I just hope it stops now and no one else goes, Cause the way I see it last season Colo was one of the stand out performers but this yr he has been well below standard so providing we get a top quality replacement in to replace Colo then it won’t be the worst thing in the world, and we will maybe get someone that is a leader because IMO Colo was not and never will be a leader and was only given the armband as a sweetner.

    @ BD

It’s hilarious reading some of the most positive people from a couple of seasons ago now waiting in a queue to buy a ticket for the reality train.

I’m surprised they are surprised. 🙄

      (Quote)

  29. Dave – I real doubt we would be able to get him but I think Michael Dawson would be a great addition and that leader we so desperately need.
I don’t suppose Spurs would let him go at this stage of the season, and if they would they’ll want £8-10m I would think – which we really won’t pay with needing a CF and a 2nd CB.
This season has gone to rat **** and unless we spend some serious money we can write next season off as well.

  30. Troy 😉 im not surprised that your surprised that they’re surprised, because it was inevitable that this was going to happen with the way the Regime has gone about ruining our once great Club. 😯
But I do think we should charge them a boarding fee as I don’t think they should get the same benefits as the rest of us, as after all they have mocked and abused our passengers for long enough just because they couldn’t see

  31. I think this rumour was started by Harry Sedcrap. Either him or his dog. He’s just as bad and just as bright.

  32. Dave – I’m not sure the board can really be held accountable for Colo dipping his fucking wick elsewhere and there lass fucking off back to Argy like?! 🙄

  33. I saw a report somewhere that we were interested in PSG’s Mamadou Sahko as a center back, but in tonight’s PSG game, Thiago Silva came off injured and Sakho replaced him. I wonder if this will have any repercussions for us.

      (Quote)

  34. Dave – fair play, Troy – where did you get that suggestion from mate?
But I’m sure you were amongst those (including myself) for acknowledging the boards good work for securing Colo and Krul to new contracts last season. I don’t remember too many comments suggesting the board was ruining our once great club that day like

      (Quote)

  35. FSOTC – I think we were linked with him in the summer mate when we were in a far more healthy position than we find ourselves in now.
It shouldn’t have too many repercussions now though mate coz 1) I doubt we could afford him and 2) I doubt he’d fancy leaving the wealth and medals of PSG for the relegation battle we face mate.

  36. Sad to see that some people must have been given sackcloth and ashes for Xmas, and even sadder that others are triumphant at seeing them being used.

The win against Norwich will lift us all back into a more balanced state of mind – although I doubt there’s any hope for those who would be happy with relegation.

      (Quote)

  37. Sharpy I know you didn’t ask me but I commended the Regime for getting Krul and Colo signed up to new contracts but that was before they fuked it up by not showing the players the same commitment and ambition in the summer after the players had showed them theirs last season.
As usual with the Regime they do a good turn or masterstroke every now and then, but they then go and fuk it all up by doing something daft the next minute.

  39. If all this is true about him shagging about and his wife finding out , then that explains his bad form this season . What it does not do , is explain the ***** performances of the rest of the team . Their is more too it than that , Something has gone massively wrong in the dressing room i reckon and Pardew has lost the respect of the players .

      (Quote)

  40. Sakho’s valued at around 12-13 mill on the transfer markt site. Not sure how close they are to actual value. I watched him a bit tonight, but he didn’t have much to do, really.

I was thinking we should go after Savic at Fiorentina, but probably same story–why would he want to leave a CL contender for lowly old us?
