Vote: Would you be happy if the transfer window ended now?

Signing #1 this January
Signing #1 this January
So we’ve not done so bad in this transfer window so far. Much better than I thought we’d do anyway.

Granted we’ve lost Demba Ba although I don’t think there was much that could have been done about that. Once a club he wanted to go to met his release clause we would have always been on shaky ground.

However in terms of players in we have just under half of a new starting eleven to pick from should we choose to do so. Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara, Yoan Gouffran and, most recently, Moussa Sissoko have joined the ranks at St James’ Park giving us more options all over the pitch and more strength in depth which is something that has proved costly this season. To top it all off, Fabricio Coloccini stays at Newcastle for the time being at least.

Personally I get the feeling our business is done now though. I don’t know why but it was just the way that Alan Pardew was talking after the Sissoko signing yesterday. It was more of a review of our transfer window the way i read it although I could of course be wrong.

So the next question to ask is would you be happy if the transfer window ended now? Do you think we’ve done enough to strengthen? I know a lot of it should have been done last summer, but have the board finally put things right by back Alan Pardew or are we still desperately short somewhere on the pitch?

Personally I’m happy with what we’ve done in this window and if it was the end of January and we couldn’t bring in any more I wouldn’t be bothered at all. An extra striker would be nice but I honestly can’t see that happening.

However what I want to know is what your opinion is on the matter, so get voting and leave a comment below.

  1. I agree, but if we are playing that style, is Gouffran someone who can play upfront on his own?

  2. Pootle@68, you’re way off the mark mate, you don’t need to use so many words when you are barking up the wrong tree 😆

I don’t want to reopen an old debate, but just for the record, I thought at the time Ba was a better striker than Cisse, and agreed that Pardew should start him in the middle over Cisse. However – that does not at the same time mean I don’t give Cisse my 100% backing 🙄

Big D@67…no 😉 You thought the only reason Cisse was so poor was because of Ba. I disagreed, and still do. However Ba is no longer at the club, I’m not pining for him, and although he scored a lot of valuable goals for us, good riddance to him. I’m only interested in players who play for the toon, and Cisse is one of them.

  3. Cisse has been woeful this season. He cant string two passes together never mind score a goal. Blaming it all on Ba is very harsh. True playing on the flank does not suit Cisse but even with two up top he has been shockingly bad. IMO one of our worst players this year.

I am sure his form will return with the teams morale though and some healthy competition wouldn’t be to bad either would love RVW.

  4. Icedog@70, didn’t you or Big D have access to Steve Wraith who was insinuating something wasn’t right behind the scenes. Apart from the Ba issue, which is now history, it sounds like the Collo issue may have also been going on for a while 🙄 .

  5. “I haven’t been Xie king up on you. Lol ”

That was meant to say ‘checking up on you’.
    Predictive text, my ****!

MM. Listen to Big Dave. Review some of the things you said. It was almost like you were blaming Cisse for Ba leaving!!
It was money. We were a necessary financial stepping stone to him.

It always makes me cringe when I hear people talking about mercenaries in football (as with Remy).
Money is a large motivation in most people’s lives, not just footballers.

Most footballers are swayed by money and glory (fame?). Those who aren’t are in the minority. Ba, however, appears to be more motivated by it than most as it appeared to be his main agenda the whole time.

  6. Hi! I teach Spanish and I have to say that Colo did not write it. It is very flowery and bigs up the two main men of San Lorenzo. I reckon they wrote it to save face and probably got the agent to sign Colo’s name. Colo has to prove his loyalty with his performances on the pitch.

  7. FJ yeah mate he has played up top 😉

MM not strictly Ba but Pards aswell because Pards gave Ba the assurances before they even kicked a ball in a friendly so that suggested to me that Pards had made the Ba assurances to try to keep Ba and it had nowt to do with form, so that showed little faith in Cisse who finished the last season on a high 🙄

  8. Santii.
Surely the fact that pretty much every player has been ***** this season and we have AS A TEAM barely been able to string two passes together would suggest the problem is greater than Cisse’s form.
It suggests to me that Pardew has lost the plot. But there you go.

      (Quote)

  9. Funky-I don’t know mate, I really don’t. But with the back 4 and combative midfield we have, surely we can actually keep some clean sheets this season? We didn’t score that many goals last season truth be told, it was our solid defence that put us near the top.

I’m confident even Xisco could score with the service we should be able to provide 😀

      (Quote)

  10. Big Dave,

I know he has played up front but I wasn’t sure if he was a lone striker type. He seems more Michael Owen than Shane Long.

  11. Pootle@81, you should really stop with your lies.
Not only are you barking up the wrong tree, you’re also one month behind the times.. 😳 😆

  12. SNOWDONE I don’t think you can say 100% that Colo did not write that, but even if he didn’t I don’t for one minute believe that he didn’t read it before he signed it or gave the go ahead for someone to sign it for him. I really cant see the club risking the wrath of the Regime by doing something like that.

      (Quote)

  13. @81

I don’t get all this hatred for Ba. So what if he thought of us as a stepping stone. He still needs to play well if he wants that big money move. He has also arguebly been are best player for 2 seasons now. So if we get anyone else through the door with the same mentality as him and who plays as good as he did for us surely that is a good thing. No?

      (Quote)

  14. MM aye mate your right I also say this and get slated but after watching a lot of games over again I am saying cissie body language is not the same as it was,ime just hoping it improves over these last 15games

      (Quote)

  15. FJ I am not 100% on it but from what I read it sounds as if he has, but apart from that I don’t think we’ll be using a lone striker as it seems like the players we have are better suited to playing other formations but thats just my opinion

      (Quote)

  16. Icedog @69 if that’s true someone best av a word in Rangers ear then after last weeks tweets 😆

  17. @84

Im not blaming it all on Cisse for our awful season but he has still been one of the worst players this season. I think injurys have been the main reason are season has been so bad so far. Some of pardews decisions have been very poor aswell.

    Stop it!!!
    You’re becoming a Pardew “enabler”. 😉 😆

      (Quote)

  19. Icedog, whereas I’m still a big fan of Cisse’s and will stand by him 100%, he needs to start getting his **** together as far as I’m concerned. He is a bit like Collo, he seems to be a bit of an untouchable cos he’s a fans favourite.
I like the bloke and hope he starts to do the business for the team. If not we’ll struggle and at the end of the day he is a 10 mill striker.

A bit like Collo was a gash 10 mill centre half, then had 2 good seasons, then he turned gash again.

I’m starting to believe there may be truth in that that he didn’t pen that letter to San Lorenzo and that it was a wind up 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  20. Newkie, I fear that Pardew will start with Shola against Villa. However if Joneas gets a start I’ll be well peeved 😆 😆

See Dortmund won again at the weekend 😉

      (Quote)

  21. Nobody thought the letter could have really been to his wife, to show he tried to get back?

Makes me sick folks choose to spin such a serious personal matter into a hate campaign against one of our greatest players and men.

The letter, if real, was dignified and respectful and no doubt in line with the etiquette required of his culture.

Some should hang their head in shame.

      (Quote)

  22. Santii, I don’t love or hate Ba?!
He was a good player but building any kind of plans around him was futile as he was in it purely for the money and the chance to move on for more. He didn’t have a relegation clause he had a ‘offer me big wages and come and get me cheap’ clause. As the top brass at Newcastle agreed to this clause you would have expected them to be a bit better prepared for him wanting away.

Cisse is a good striker as his record demonstrates.
However he is a striker who relies on service which has been spectacularly poor this season. You can’t blame him for that.

      (Quote)

  23. Am happy with the signings we made, all good value for money and an improvement to the squad has to be good thing.

Different note – Was prepared to give Ranger the benefit of the doubt over his past, but not any-more, apart from the possible rape charge, the posting on Twitter on Thursday of him Spelling out his name in £20 was the final straw. Mind you Sammy Ameobi is not far behind him from been a total nugget, his posting of him gambling at a casino with a big pile of casino chips, also annoyed me.
Its time the club took some strong action against these two, technically they may have done nothing wrong, but its sort of rubbing the fans noses in it., they have achieved nothing in the game up to now, yet think they have made it. Spoiled idiots.

      (Quote)

  24. MM-Aye I think so too, imo Jonas has been by far our worst performer and shouldn’t get anywhere near the side, but that’s just me. In fairness to Shola, he’s been just as gash as Cisse has when he’s been out wide this season, surely now we can play an actual winger there, we will? 😕

Ice-Cheers mate, I long for the day where he will enter semi retirement and we will pay him to just turn up for the mackem games and scare their team shitless 😉

      (Quote)

  25. @STARBUST #102 None of us have clue what the problem is, even do not know whether there is one, all sorts of stories but nothing concrete from the club or Colo.
It could all be one mighty scam, Colo and his father have been down that road before, when he first left Argentina for Milan.

      (Quote)

  26. That colo letter seems a bit suspect, name dropping the president and vice president personally and stuff…still, I’ve lost respect for Colo in either way, if he is allowing this club/his dad/whoever to use him like this. Or if its the other and he is actually being a whiney little ****.

      (Quote)

  27. Pootle

#103 – Bang on. Ba is a mercenary just like 95% footballers. He was just a lot more open about it because he doesn’t subscribe to the emotional side of the game. Fair enough. I’d be a lot more p’d off if he behaved like Odemwingie is currently. Claiming to love a club just days before trying to force a move just because Floppy Chops and his gang of merry men have turned up offering more £££. Now THAT to me is disgraceful.

As for Cisse, he’s been well off form, but people writing him off aren’t worth arguing with. His record speaks for itself.

Jelavic has also had a shocking season this year, but Everton fans aren’t writing him off. They know he’s a class act going through a rough patch. Nothing more.

      (Quote)

  28. All this stuff going on with Colo if it wasn’t true surely the club would come out and say that all this stuff is made up.

Which leads me to think its all true. Nothing wrong with it. he wants to go home (I think he has cheated on the wife or something and she’s left him). We cant let him go for free though so surely we go for player exchange.

BTW will always love Colo for his contribution to the team throughout his stay here.

“In fairness to Shola, he’s been just as gash as Cisse has when he’s been out wide this season”

    You’re doing it again!!!!
Cisse’s been gash this season, played out of position and with very very poor service.
Shola has been gash HIS ENTIRE CAREER (except against the mackems, ahem!)

Its time to be tough on Shola, and the causes of Shola.

I am not writing Cisse of incase that was aimed at me i think his form will return with these reinforcements and the team morale will soar now aswell. Hope Pardew play some positive football against Villa and we get a big 5-0 win that will really secure this as one of the best transfer windows in my memory

  33. The Kid @ 109
    Exactly.
I don’t understand how pople can write Cisse of as a lemon despite his goal scoring record (including his first half season with us, FFS :-\) without noticing that not only have we not been playing to HIS strengths but our general play has been absolutely ATROCIOUS.
Maybe our coaching and general tactics have been to blame eh??

It was most certainly not directed at you. I haven’t seen anyone write Cisse off today, but a few weeks ago there were a few saying his goals last season were “lucky”…

    Yes, ridiculous, I know.

  47. @127 That would be amazing if it was true. He has been one of the best strikers in Europe a bit like Cisse last year. Find it hard to believe though.

  48. Newkie!!!

😆 Granted. But out of all his career matches how many of those matches were against the mackems (as we’re agreed that’s the only time hes ever looked half decent)?.
I bet its not a good percentage.

      (Quote)

  49. For me, the most positive thing about Cisse’s form is that he continues to play HIS game in and around the penalty area. A lot of strikers when they lose form start hesitating at key times and looking for passes instead of shooting opportunities. Cisse hasn’t done that. He hasn’t hidden once. He continues to believe he can score and shoots on sight. It’s only a matter of time until he is back amongst the goals.

    I will join you 😀
