Game On! Aston Villa v Newcastle

Villa Park
Villa Park
It’s back to work for both sets of players as both Newcastle United and Aston Villa look to bounce back from recent disappointing results.

It’s 17th versus 16th this evening at Villa Park as both sides eye three points that will drop the other deeper into the mire.

Neither side has been getting results and neither side is full of confidence although a recent spate of new signings at United seems to have added some renewed energy into the mix. Whether that will be enough tonight remains to be seen but United need the three points ahead of fixtures against Chelsea and Tottenham where, if you go by the form book at least, it would appear unlikely that we’d get anything from those games. Stranger things have happened though…

Up to four new faces could be making their debut for Newcastle tonight. Moussa Sissoko is likely to play but the rest may have to make do with a spot on the bench before making an appearance. However a bench with Yoan Gouffran, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Massadio Haidara gives us infinitely more options than what we’ve had recently. As always, full team news will be added in at the bottom of this article as and when it becomes available.

Unfortunately we aren’t on TV either, at least not here in the UK anyway, which means that a lot of people are going to be after a stream of the game. Not one to encourage this behaviour of course, but I can’t really stop people posting links to good streams in the ‘comments’ section below. Ahem…

Which just about wraps it up. It will be interesting to see how our new faces do this evening although I’m hopeful that the team as a whole decides to turn up tonight. Time is running out and we need to average over a point a game (1.267 actually) to make sure we hit that supposedly magical 40 point mark that is deemed as enough to keep a team safe from relegation.

Howay the lads!

  1. Commentators keep saying “young Villa midfield” followed by “can’t handle Sissoko” Sissoko is 23; Bannan 23, Westwood 22. Such a big age difference!!
Therein lies why British is a waste of money.

  2. Charlie N’Zogbia can’t be too happy watching all the French players make his new team look silly.

    He’s the one Frenchman I’m glad we didn’t sign/re-sign.

  3. @JJ and EvilFranky: My grand mother would have scored that goal Cisse scored. Villa conceded 15 Goals in 3 games and lost to Bradford in the last game. Take it easy.

As for Cabaye good goal I’ll admit that. His corners have been terrible though surely you can admit that.

  4. Agreed. No need to cross our fingers about Gouffran.
On this showing Gouffran, Cisse and Ben Arfa HAS to be our front 3 in the future.

  5. “Statisticians Opta on Twitter: “No player has scored more Premier League goals from outside the box since August 2011 than Yohan Cabaye (5).”

  6. Agree Solano,

    English players are ***** 😆 😉

So happy for Papiss Cisse. If he can score a couple goals its going to do wonders for his confidence. He really is a quality player. So disappointed at the number of supporters who have got on his back recently.

  8. Well impressed and too think it can only get better , one thing puzzles me though .No Marveaux on the bench and Sammy is ? and by god is sissoko a big ****** ,its the first time i have seen him .

  9. Well, as much as nobody probably cares, but you can’t stream live games direct to your telly via the Internet Explorer app through XBox. ****** won’t let you download drivers. 😈 …decent stream on the laptop anyway. 😯 🙂

….yeah BIG DAVE the Jonas-basher. We finally see him playing on the right! Decent cross in (with his natural foot) for Cabaye’s goal. It’s only taken Pardew 2 years to work that one out. 😯

…hopefully he’ll stay in that position henceforth, what what. 😯

  10. Well ,bloody hell how good is Sissoko and Gouffrans no slouch either 😀 . Debuchy getting tuck in and Saylor looks assured . Great first half ,but we must keep up the tempo and go for the kill now,no sitting on a lead .Oh and someone needs to sort out the Zog ,he’s getting on my wick.

  11. I should take it easy because I’ve supported Cisse?

It’s you who should take it easy with comments like ‘he’s finished’…that’s a massive over exaggeration.

  13. JJ @163 totally agree m8 this is the start of the season for Cisse watch him do what he did 2nd half of last season .

  14. Ron@168, hopefully Pardew will take off Cisse, Gouffran and Cabaye for M’Biwa, Willo and Bigi. Park the bus for 45 mins.

    IT’S A SURE FIRE WINNER!

    IN THE BAG! 😯 😯

    ( 😕 )

  15. Missed the 1st half bathing the boy but just watched the goals on ESPN app. Great vision from Sissoko for the first and a cool finish from Cisse. 2nd – SWEEEEEET!!!! strike by Whey Aye, and a little pat of the crest whilst celebrating.
Sissoko seems to be making the world of difference and Gouffran is working hard as well.
Same again in the 2nd half please. Nee sitting back like in the Reading game – get out there and score another 1-2 please

  16. Haha,
Ye Kim, if there’s one team who can throw this away its us… haha. And if there’s one manager who makes me nervous with subs, it’s Pardew.

  17. Well they cannot be any worse than the first half and I reckon they will have had a right old rollicking from Lambert. We need to keep it to 0-2 until 60 mins then control the game again.

Easier said than done of course. We are a team low on confidence too. One goal and Villa right back in it.

  18. I wish Krul would stop kicking it long it pisses me off so much. He loses possesion more times that anyone else in our team.

  19. That is the third time that Dean has left a toon player injured on the floor and insisted that the game carries on. Now Jonas has been bokked for dissent after the Villa player went through the vback of him. And Villa get the softest penalty I have ever seen 🙁

  20. M for real?
There was such minimal contact there you are basically saying if a player gets touched and goes down then its a pen (definately).

      (Quote)

  21. It seems that Debuchy doesn’t know that Agbonlahor is proabbly one of the quickest player in the premier league

      (Quote)

  22. dEAN WILL WIN THIS GAME FOR Villa. He has made some ***** decisions in the second half 👿

    ***** Cisse .. 👿

  23. Some really good defending from Taylor. He isn’t scared to put his body on the line. Reminds me a bit of Martin Keown when he’s at his best. Keown was just a bit more consistant.
