Gomis deal agreed. Sort of…

Gomis set to sign?
Gomis set to sign?
Newcastle United and Olympique Lyonnais have come to an agreement over the transfer of Bafetimbi Gomis to St James’ Park, but all is not cut and dried just yet.

A fee of €8 million along with an additional €2 million in the form of an unspecified bonus has been accepted by Lyon owner and chairman Jean-Michel Aulas although he also revealed that there are still problems to be ironed out before a deal can be concluded.

Those problems, according to Aulas, centre around the agent fees involved with the deal with the amount and way the payments are to be made along with the amount of people involved with the deal holding things up. However Aulas did conclude by saying that things would be sorted one way or the other within 24-48 hours so we’ll see how it all pans out.

“We have accepted the proposal of Newcastle, which is eight million euros, plus two million bonus,” said Aulas.

“The agreement is now linked to the acceptance of agents’ fees. I understand that the problem is in the amount and manner of payment of commissions.”

Aulas added: “There are several people involved in the operation, which complicates the negotiations, but I am hopeful that things will be resolved within 24 or 48 hours.”

Realistically things could still go either way but it does at least look as though the ball is in our court at the moment. That could change rapidly though as it’s well known we don’t bow to the demands of agents if they are far beyond what the club think they are worth.

Gomis would add some much needed presence to our striking options which, beyond Papiss Cisse, look exceedingly thin. I’d still like us to get another striker “over the line” before the window closes but if we get Gomis it is at least a start.

Signing number one might not be too far away after all.

  1. If we did pull these off id hope for a return to the 4-3-3 we used at the back end of the 11/12 season, Which Cisse, Ben Arfa and Cabaye thrived in.

    ———–Sissoko—-Tiote—–Cabaye——-
    –Ben Arfa————Cisse———-Remy—

    Somethig like that^^^

Gomis certainly a better alternative to Cisse than Shola and possibly another bid for Tomkins with fat sam needing to raise funds for another striker ??

  2. If we get Gomis and Remy we could field 10 French outfield players 😯
    Krul
    Debuchy, Sissoko,Yanga, Haidara
    Cabaye, Marveaux, Ben Arfa,Goofie
    Remy , Gomis,

    Sub Obertan

  3. Wasn’t James McCarthy valued at something ridiculous like £15m by Wigan?!
If we sign him I think that would suggest to me that Cabaye would be on his way to PSG or Man Utd.
It’s not a position we need to strengthen as a priority IMO. Wide men and defensive cover (Willo replacement and cover at RB) would be ahead of midfield – unless we are moving one on

  5. Troy,
You spout more **** than Pardew!
Get your head out of his **** and accept **** football all season,

Your blind hatred of Ashley is boring and tedious, in truth I don’t like Ashley either, but to some extent he HAS provided Pardew with the tools. Albeit a bit late on re last season.

Yes the appointment of JFK as DOF is nonsensical and does demonstrate a lack of foresight and understanding of the role by Ashley.
When Pardew leaves, I fully expect JFK to be handed the reins , possibly on a short term basis until the arrival of someone cheap and out of work a la Poyet.
I will reiterate what I said to you yesterday that IMHO I believe that JFK would select a better attacking side than Pardew. Do NOT misinterpret this as I want JFK as our manager.
You will no doubt attempt to shred my comments and force your views upon the rest of the blog. BRING IT ON!!!!!

  9. Michael@149 Fact is he scored 20 goals last season 7 of which wrongly chalked off but he’s not Ba is he ,and that in a nutshell is your problem and you just can’t get over it.
As for me ‘not thinking today but what’s different ‘ Well it didn’t take too long for me to work out you are a plonker

  10. Ice 😉 you know how Jabba works, until they’re pictured with the Toon top the deals not done.

Troy yeah I seen the dummy getting threw out 😆 but dont know where it is now as the place is covered with toys 😆

    Kim you tell him 😉

  11. @Kimtoon: your cognitive processes leave much to be desired. If I were you I would start writting my excuses for next season when Cisse hits a brick again as I know he will, we will await the reasons.

    Demba Ba!
Cabaye’s wife is pregnant and it is affecting Cisse.
Allah is angry with him because he is wearing Wonga

That should get you started with a few ideas, no?

  12. Wholly Molly what’s gannin on with you’s lot the day like?!

We’re about to sign some players which is the first thing to get positive about in donkeys and you lot wanna rip each others heeds off 😈 😆

  13. @Sharpy

We aren’t going to sign anyone. That’s the trouble. Gomis is asking too much. 😉

      (Quote)

  14. Michael ,I don’t need to make or find excuses and I certainly don’t need to justify myself or my reasons to you of all people ,I tend to save that for people I respect. 🙄

  15. @Kimtoon: “I certainly don’t need to justify myself or my reasons to you of all people.” The reason is simply because you cannot justify your arguments.

The only dummy round here is YOU!!!! 😆

      (Quote)

  17. Michael @ 178 ,What’s to justify ,did he or did he not score 20 goals of which 7 wrongly judge offside .That is a fact widely acknowledged as correct now. Is that not a good return for a striker or not.

      (Quote)

  18. @TGS

You lost your argument when you mentioned you would rather have Jokey as manager than Pards.
    😆

  19. Isn’t it strange that no-one has signed the legendary Douglas ? Especially when the likes of iNTER mILAN and the toon were linked with him, the toon for probably two years too !…… Plus he’s available on a freebie apparently… stwange…

      (Quote)

  20. Cisse scored 13 last season. All this wrongly awarded offside talk is utter tosh. Every striker has goals ruled out for offside when they shoudnt. If we start going into those realms we can strt looking at golas that should hve ruled out due to a foul by the scorer or a teammate in the build up to the goal etc etc – where does it end?

    His total is 13.

The real reason his tally is so low is because our team as a whole played ***** last term, fed by a *****, negative tactical approach when we have a team full of technical continental players just begging to be allowed to express themselves. We have also been very badly unbalanced across the park. No genuine wingers does not help.

Give our players the freedom to actually play football and I’m sure Cisse will start banging them in – as will a few other players – but we do need a couple of genuine pacey wingers that can cross, and we need to lose at least 1 of our CM’s, ideally Gosling and maybe Tiote if the money is right.

      (Quote)

  21. Just whacked £1 each way on Cisse to be top scorer at 40/1. Quarter odds for 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Also had a tenner on the Toon to finish top 6. Now off to burn £10 notes in the garden 😆

      (Quote)

  22. Shamrock, I agree, I reckon Cisse would score a load more goals if we had a bit more creativity in the final third, and actually played “on the front foot” as Pardew so expertly puts it.
Whereas Pardew may learn from last season, I don’t think Cisse will learn too much regarding the offside rule. It is bread and butter part and parcel of his game, sitting on the defenders shoulder to steal half a yard. hE DID it all the time in Germany..

      (Quote)

  23. Tony – you’ve spent more on school shoes this summer than Ashley has on players 😯 😆

Cisse is spot on man!, he’s one of us – a Geordie and we love him!. He’ll do just fine this season!.
There’s nowt Wonga with his goal scoring record :oops 😛

      (Quote)

  24. Anyone know how many of Cisse’s goals were after Ba left and he was played in his right position? Maybe should have checked that before putting my bet on like ❓

      (Quote)

  25. He scored 7 after Demba left.

Did you know Cisse scored 4 with his left, 4 with his right and 4 with his head last term? 1was unintentional.

      (Quote)

  26. Thanks Shamrock – he had one go in off his ar*e as well.. Talented lad. Doubt he will finish top scorer but he might sneak into top 4 and win me a tenner. Funny how pre-season can result in unbridled and unrealistic optimism but then that’s why I still have a season ticket after 50+ years supporting the Toon 😆

@LaurensJulien hi Julien, what are your thoughts on Gomis? Basically…is he any good? Ha!

    Julien Laurens ‏@LaurensJulien 18h
@josh_gorst1 im not a fan at all. He has been scoring regularly 10 goals + a season in Ligue1 but for me he is not clinical enough &too slow

    Josh Gorst ‏@josh_gorst1 17h
@LaurensJulien hmm does he compare to Wilfried Bony?

    Julien Laurens ‏@LaurensJulien 43m
@josh_gorst1 No, Bony has more pace and is a better finisher in my opinion

      (Quote)

  28. 3HW – irrelevant mate, he’s gonna have Gomis, Remy, Benny, Cabs, Gouffran, Sissoko and Marv around him this season mate.
He won’t finish top scorer but he’ll beat last seasons 13 goals.

10/1 for the toon to finish top 6 – which bookies is that with – the crazy *******!!

      (Quote)

  29. Aye Sharpy I think he might get near 20 with the right players around him and some luck. Paddy Power is the bookies I use. 33/1 for the Toon to win the FA Cup.

  30. M – it’s a journos opinion at the end of the day.
If the lad comes to us and scores 10 goals plus per season for us then that’s value for money IMO.
I keep saying it, but nobody is under the impression that in Gomis we are signing a world beater. But 10 goals plus per season is an improvement on Shola, Ranger or Xsico last season.

      (Quote)

  31. Axel@195, thanks mate. I was scooting around Bavaria all last week and missed a bunch of news… Best place for the lad I say.. Dinamo Moscow.. pppffftt….

      (Quote)

  32. Shamrock ,Cisse had a poor season by his standards but for Michael to completely write him off is ridiculous .As you pointed out he needs decent service to be totally effective that is not the same as having goals put on a plate as Michael tries to imply. He has great pace two good feet ,and he’s able to get away from defenders .To be really effective we simply have to play a more attacking style ,Pardew worries more about not conceding than attacking and frankly it got us nowhere last season shipping what was it 60 goals 🙄 . I would rather we gave the opposition a frontline to worry about than just sit back and hope for the best and then attack for our normal 10 mins second half .

      (Quote)

  33. Surely this isn’t the way to handle signings. What a mess. Joe is clueless. Other clubs have worked wonders in comparison. Ashley is useless as a football owner but we’re stuck with the clown. I’ll be interested to see how Fulham makes out this season with a new owner. It seems it is quite easy to sell your club if you know how and have connections in football other than Joe Kinnear. I’ll be watching how we start the season with interest with our completely mismatched management group. More of the same I would think. A lot of talk from various people in the club then nothing positive happens.

  34. Spot on @199 Kimtoon. We need a proper formation change and more emphasis on control of the ball throughout the game. No more hoofball (I don’t mean never make any long passes, but they should be passes not desperation hoof its).

  35. KIM oh by the way i respect your views dont always agree like lol and enjoy them along with others but would never insult anyone unlike some, wink wink
unless it was chuck 😀 😀

  36. I think Pardew has 10-12 games to show what he can do with the team this coming season. If we seriously underperform he’s a goner. It can’t be otherwise. Ashley will not risk his investment for Pardew or anyone else. Forcing Llambias out shows that. The real problem is who Ashley would replace him with taking into account Joe’s advice. It could be another shocker. Another chum from Kinnear’s past possibly?

      (Quote)

  37. M @192 that’s an interesting set of quotes. They make a lot of sense to me. Having watched Gomis he is definitely not a baby Drogba. Not nearly as creative with the ball. I think he possibly can get 10-12 goals with us depending on how he is played of course. Pardew will probably find a way to waste what talent he has.

      (Quote)

  38. Just caught some of the Spurs v Monaco game and I’m still a fan of Andros Townsend.
He’s a really exciting young player I think, and I know he comes with his problems, but if we could get him for around £4-5m I think that would be the wide left sorted

      (Quote)

  39. G2 nice to see you back on mate, didnt know you had went on hols, hope you lapped them up 😀 i was enjoying your comments on the past good players at toon before you jetted off on hols, plenty memorys brought back to me 😉

  40. SHARPY,spuds got smacked, not the same team without bale they will need to spend a fair whack of that cash they get for him imo

  41. so whats the hold up? why is it taking so long to finalize.. This might not happen you know.

Apparently Gazza has been telling numpties outside the black garta Gomis wanted 100k per week or summit 😛

  42. MARK i dont want to put a downer on things but there is always storeys doing the rounds, latest one is jabba pulled the plug on gomis because of agents fees and remy wants to stay in london and talking to w/ham,then theres a storey of gomis saying goodbye to his team mates in france, nowt shocks me,i just wait till they are here with the shirt on,storeys mean dog **** to me 😉

      (Quote)

  43. @icedog

I wouldnt bet against it m8. I’m certainly not thinking theyre close to signing. The longer it takes the less chance we have i reckon

      (Quote)

  44. The Kid.

Might sound daft but I’d rather have a 26yr old Nolan than a 26yr old Cabaye. & I really like Cabaye..

Apparently the Gomis deal has nothing to do with agents. Its the amount of playing time he’ll get if we also sign Remy. Ashley is hoping he’ll sign a zero hour contract..

      (Quote)

  45. MARK you see what i mean there is a hundred and one storeys, which one is right?? we will never know but it sells papers i guess 😉

      (Quote)

  46. Ice – aye spuds were whipped, Falcao was **** hot but to be fair to Spurs that wasn’t there strongest team – even without Bale.
I agree though, even if they get Soldado they still have some strengthening to do.

If it came to McCarthy or Townsend though I think I’d prefer Townsend to be honest. I think with regular football he’d be a cracking young player.

      (Quote)

  47. The Kid @212 ,Yeah exactly.

Ice@202 ,I could never fall out with you ,I owe you that much having not let you see THAT photo 😆

Well it’s all gone a bit quiet for my liking . Is he coming or not 🙄 If this falls through because of that greedy agent like he done us with Erdinc deal I will be furious .It’s getting silly now ,we’re like a fricking circus .Then there is Remy supposedly chatting to West Ham now 🙄 First they get Carroll now possibly Remy ,oh but they can’t afford to put much cash towards the new stadium revamp cause they are skint bless em.

      (Quote)

  48. SHARPY thats a hard one mate,i like both players both in the PL,townsend couldnt get into spuds first team but still done well, money wise townsend would be a hell of a lot cheaper like imo

      (Quote)

  49. Ice – aye that’s exactly what I meant mate. McCarthy is a good player but I reckon we’d get change of £5m for Townsend and Spurs would probably be more than willing to let him go.
Where McCarthy would be £10m plus and Wigan would probably fight to keep him.

      (Quote)

  50. read a couple of rumors on other blogs that Ashley is about to sack Kinnear , they are saying he is more often than not Drunk and thats the reason Bent and his agent were far from impressed with the Tw@t . Anyone on here heard owt about it ?

      (Quote)

  51. AXEL don’t know if those
storeys are true mate, seems strange like as jajaba was known to drink with Joe in some pub together from time to time so one would think he would know if he had a drink problem but have heard storeys too,I know one thing its driving me to drink lol

  52. Me too ICEDOG i am on me 6th can of Heineken as i type and still got another 6 cold in the fridge 😀

      (Quote)

  53. Kim maybe it’s a good thing for Ice’s blood pressure that he never seen that photo, as even in my early yrs I was shocked 😯 but in a good way 😉 .
Oh and a wee bit of advice my old man always told me if you feed a stray they will always follow you, some sometimes it’s best to ignore 😆
