Game On! Newcastle v Chelsea

Mags v Blues
Mags v Blues
United are going through a tough time of things at the moment, and with the visit of an in form Chelsea on the agenda this afternoon it’s hard to see how things improve in the short term.

It’s all a bit of a mess on Tyneside at the moment. Indeed that may be a bit of an understatement, Off pitch things are not great and on the pitch things are no better as we lurch from crisis to crisis.

A spirited defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday evening ultimately meant nothing as we exited the League Cup for another season, the defeat to Sunderland, the fixture today and knowing that we travel to Tottenham after this aren’t helping the mood and events away from the pitch are only adding fuel to a fire that is growing in size as each day passes. A win would at least give us something to cheer, but I just can’t see it happening unfortunately.

However enough moping. There is a game today and as the old saying goes, anyone can beat anyone on the day. We managed to beat Chelsea last season so it’s not an impossible task but to do so we need to be at our very best for the entire duration of the match.

Speaking of the match we are live on BT Sport here in the UK and are also being broadcast on a whole host of overseas channels so catching a stream online shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Once again please share any decent feeds you happen to come across and leave a link in the ‘comments’ section below. Team news will be featured below as and when.

There really isn’t a lot more to say apart from lets get this over with. As a United fan I wait to be pleasantly surprised and I’m optimistic that if we perform to our potential we can win or at least draw, but the realist in me knows it’s going to be tough and that we’ll most likely be talking about enough defeat come the full-time whistle.

Howay the lads!

  2. Big Dave – it was nothing to do with Pardew, it was down to the players on the pitch.
    😉

  3. Classic example of what happens in the pl when you are 10% off the pace. Chelsea came to us expecting the win and paid for not putting in the graft..

  4. Truly fantastic last half hour. Great work for the defenders for most of the match too.

A few minutes of silence please for JJ who will either be having a heart attack out of shock right now or will be jumping off a cliff because we’ve won and Pardew wont get sacked again.

    😛

some good hard graft from our lot today.
Why couldn’t they do that against the scum ffs

  8. 4 – Jose Mourinho has now managed four PL games at St James Park without a single win, a joint-high with Villa Park. Hoodoo.

    😆 😆

  9. A few crew on here owe me an apology for giving me grief for backing Debuchy when he was going through a tough patch. Debs was fantastic today! You know who you are

  10. well done Richie
I hope that was your banker bonus too as you need the points 😯

  11. WELL I DIDN’T SEE THAT COMING 😯 😯 😯
Thoroughly deserved win for an excellent performance to a man!.
MYM looked solid after a shaky start as did Sissoko.

I do think Remy looks more threatening and finds better areas when he’s up there with Cisse as well.

And Anita looked every bit a PL player when he came on.

Great win and I wanted 4 points from Liverpool, Sunderland and Chelsea – got them!.

  12. Aussie@254-Fantastic might be pushing it, as he could easily have given away another penalty. He was good though.

Funnily enough Sissoko was better on the wing than he usually is. Maybe he can play there again if the poor little kitten doesn’t mind doing a job for the team?

  13. You need a double degree in astrophysics to work out what the heck is going on at Newcastle. Madness.

    😆 😆 😆

  14. Anita is such a tidy player, manages to open up all sorts of space with his passing.
    Tiote looked good again.
Nice to have competition for places there in the middle.
    Whole defence did us proud.
    Cisse still a worry.

Aye me too, Always predict wins for us more though hope than expectation.

Only 200 odd points off the top now

  16. Newkie 😉 😛

BB…I’m not that daft I used my insurance chip 😐

Bris…I actually had 2-1 too, rather have the clean sheet than the extra points though

  17. Mbiwa in the ‘Collo role’ and Williamson were pure class today. 😀 I’ve thought they could have a game like that in them and deserve praise just like when they take the stick.

  18. CC…I don’t always predict the win but I never predict a loss.

    Aussie…**** off 😛

So who’s the hate figure now? Willo’s doing ok, ditto Tiote and Debuchy played well again 😀

  19. Who needs Steven Taylor or Colocinni when you have a defence playing like that and Debuchy was top drawer as well. Just worth a mention after the stick he took at the start of the season. 🙂

  20. Aussie-I think you might be suffering from the selective memory problems of many others on here. 😀

‘Here’s a question, where is Jonas?’
In Argentina recovering from injury. But more importantly, as far away from Newcastle United as possible. 🙂

  22. Well what a result. Great performance in the second half.Fantastic two goals and some great defending.
This club will be the death of me.

  23. The Kid- but who do play Anita over? Maybe sissoko but he played well today and generally provides more going forward. Nothing wrong with a little competition. He’s certainly a valuable sub at the moment

      (Quote)

  24. THE KID
The main difference between Anita and Tiote, in the simplest terms possible, is the second goal and his all round ability. He has so much more to his game than just closing down. But having said that, I thought Tiote, Cabaye and Anita were all outstanding today and a combination of that can beat any team, including Chelski. 😯

  25. Newkie…I’m watching Citeh on Al Jazeera and they show all the goals as they go in but wor lass was wittering on so I missed him kicking it just seen the Saints keeper picking it out the net.

  26. ‘0:13 Goal! Asmir Begovic (Stoke City) right footed shot from more than 35 yards to the high centre of the goal. Assisted by Erik Pieters.’
I wonder what happened there? ❗

  27. Iam in total shock never did i think we would win today.A complete inept performance against the unwashed then we beat Chelsea god supporting the toon is the ultimate rollercoaster ride 😯 😀

  28. MANAGER REACTION – Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, speaking to BT Sport: “We had exerted so much energy in midweek we decided to be very cautious at the start. We perhaps let them have too much possession but we knew in the second half, with the three subs, that we could exert more pressure and that is what happened. The goal came at an important time for us.

“We have a great spirit in the group. We have played well, we are together and this win is for Mike Ashley and all our Newcastle fans. I am pleased for the club, we want the local press to be on side with us and today was about giving as message to our fans that we are very much alive and kicking.

“We have no Europa League this year, we are going along nicely. We are probably thee points short of where we hoped but we are nicely poised.”

      (Quote)

  29. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, talking to BT Sport: “I didn’t like it. I think we deserved to lose. We had a couple of good chances to score the equaliser but they were in the game more than us, they fought more than us and they were much more committed than us. They were the best team on the pitch, if someone had to win, I think it was Newcastle not us.

“The game was quite easy to play in the first half but we were not sharp, we were not intense with the ball. So we let the game go, waiting for a chance to score a goal or a chance to concede and lose it and that is exactly what I was telling the players at half-time.”

Thoughts on Chelsea and the Premier League, 10 games in: “I don’t need to lose a match to be aware of [how competitive the league is]. It is something I know and pass on to my players every game, I know exactly how it is. The race is there for everybody. If Arsenal win today they open the gap. I didn’t like my team today.”

  30. Has anyone else noticed that since Pardew has switched to 4-4-2, we’ve played a lot better and create more chances, with a kind of renaissance of Shola Ameobi as the target and a partner, hopefully Remy. Is this reality or fiction lol. The only player who was still ***** today was Cisse. 😆 Total lost cause. 😀

  31. Another great result by the team and Pardew. Must admit credit to Pardew for the difficult to break down set up we had today. We have in the past four games been difficult to break up. Liverpool, Man City and now Chelsea to boot.

    Great result!
