Game On! Newcastle v Arsenal

Game On at St James' Park
Game On at St James’ Park
Good morning one and all, and welcome to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through every twist and turn of the visit of Arsenal today.

The Gunners will no doubt be smarting after watching Manchester City knock them off the top of the Premier League table yesterday and will want the spot they’ve occupied for the bulk of the season back in time for the turn of the year.

On the other hand Newcastle are in good form and have their own agenda to fulfil. A win today against Arsenal could potentially see us occupy a European spot as we head into 2014 so there is a dangling carrot for both sides in this one.

You can catch up with early team news along with a host of stats, facts and a history of the fixture by having a look at the match preview here. Real team news will be added in below as soon as I can get to it.

The game itself is being shown here in the UK on Sky Sports along with a whole host of overseas broadcasts so finding a stream should be straight forward today. However should you find a decent, reliable one then please share it by leaving the link in the ‘comments’ section below.

Which just about wraps this up. Today will be tough, real tough, but I’ll bet Arsenal will be saying much the same thing. Will it be another notable success for our boys today? Or will we be put in our place?

Howay the lads!

  1. So no hba, probably a good move as pard’s is likely to sit back and try to contain them while hoping for a quick breakaway goal – not sure they are the best tactics but we’ll see soon enough

  2. good call Alan. I like that we’re going to attempt to ‘control’ the game

it might not work… but I think it’s the right choice. HBA, Shola and Haidara all likely to come of the bench 2nd half

  3. It’ll be interesting to see how we get on with this line-up/formation at home… after 2 very nice away performances

  4. I’ve got definitive proof that Pardew reads this blog & has started listening to me (sometimes). That’s why our results have been better this season.

Oh yeah, the proof…here it is:

Second guessing pardew, i imagine there are 2 places up for grabs. So which 2 out of Remy, Cisse, Gouffran, Ameobi & Ben Arfa?My guess:
    ——————–Krul—————–
    Debuchy— Wiliamson—Coloccini—Santon
    Sissoko—Anita—Cabaye—Tiote—Gouffran
    ——————Remy—————–

Ben Arfa will come of for Gouffran when he tires. The other change might be Anita for Ameobi unless Cabaye is too tired (or reckless!).

  5. I was confident but now pardew seems a little confident of a win too!

We do much better when we’re portrayed as the underdogs.

Lets hope the players don’t expect a win & stay focused.

  6. @8

he could have left Anita out and gone 4-4-2 with shola
he could have left Anita out and played Sissoko CM, with HBA wide right
he could have started Haidara ahead of Santon

    these were all viable options

  7. I suppose we’re really relying on sissoko & gouffran to score with remy trying to hold on to the ball.

Another change could be moving remy out wide & bringing ameobi on for gouffran.

****, i’m excited. Lets hope we give them a good game.

  8. Big test, arsenal haven’t been that great in last few games but still represent our hardest test since Chelsea at home – need to be at top if our game to stay in touch with top four

I hope the players do expect to win as I dont think they should be playing if they didn’t think they could win 😯

  10. Interesting too see STaylor not even on the bench ,i got a feeling he will be sold in January or maybe used in a swap deal for Tomkins of West Ham who Pardew rates and wants . Got a feeling this one will be a 1-1 draw them too score first half and we get back in it second half with an equalizer in the last 10 minutes . Not confident that Remy can lead the line up front alone .Shola will come on at half time .

  11. Mesut Ozil misses Arsenal’s trip to Newcastle with a slight shoulder problem, but Jack Wilshere starts.

Are we that lucky this year….. Might be a chance. 😈 😈

  12. dave it was a right laugh that 5 mins before half time , on a pluss side my elder bro had a stoke fan round the throat on the way back when we stopped at serv station for gobbing off 😆

  13. Referee: Lee Probert – second Newcastle appointment of the season, following on from the 1-2 derby reverse.

  14. Very true mate 😆

Our passing has improved ten fold in last few months. Good to see – Pards looks like he’s on to something. Good for him to turn it around.

  15. Dave – I’ve got the sound barely audible because of him. just keep hearing the odd Ameobi being thrown about 😆

  16. Walcott you little ***** ,rubbing his face, **** all in that challenge 👿 trying his damnedest to get Tiote red carded

  17. Tell you what, Sissoko can’t half thump a ball can’t he 😯

    Off the bar unlucky.

An even first-half. Bit cagey. Still either side could win. Is that a good sign for us and how we are looking this season? People said it’s a test this game and we’re not failing it or getting embarrassed/outplayed

  18. Decent first half but i would like too see Ameobi on for Sissoko and Remy moved out wide second half .Sissoko is 1 booking away from a suspension and i have a feeling it will get nasty second half.
