Cabaye out but De Jong signs on

Luuk de Jong signs on
Luuk de Jong signs on
So it’s been confirmed now that Yohan Cabaye has signed for Paris Saint-Germain for a fee believed to be in the region of £20 million.

Losing such an influential player is a blow although it has been softened by the arrival of Luuk De Jong who joins the club on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.

The likelihood is that the former FC Twente and Borussia Mönchengladbach forward will be thrown in at the deep end and will make his debut in the Tyne-Wear derby this weekend, especially now Loic Remy is suspended as a result of his red card against Norwich on Tuesday evening.

I’m pleased we’ve beefed up our attack but then again the success of this deal depends on the detail and whether we get the chance to use the option to sign De Jong at the end of the season. If all goes well, will another club become interested and try to scupper any deal? That’s just an example…

Things never worked out for De Jong in Germany as he found his chances restricted. However his goalscoring record in Holland was impressive and if he can recapture that kind of form – the kind which has had us chasing him for some time – then he could be a good signing for us.

The problem with strikers who scored lots in the Eredivisie is that for every Ruud van Nistelrooy who was an astonishing success in England, there is an Afonso Alves who never managed to hit the same goalscoring heights on these shores. Time will tell I guess.

Moving on to Cabaye, I’m sad to see him go but I don’t really see how anyone can either be surprised that he has moved on or argue against his move to PSG. They are a rich club so he’ll be paid handsomely, will be playing in the capital city of his country just a couple of hours drive away from where he grew up and will be fighting for titles and medals whilst playing in the Champions League under the guidance of a French former playing legend. Not bad really is it?

It’s been revealed that there was some form of agreement about letting Cabaye go this winter following a failed move to Arsenal in the summer window. The fact he supposedly went on strike shows he had his eyes on bigger things and has done for some time. Anyone who listened to Joe Kinnear and his “nobody will leave” claptrap deserves to be disappointed in fairness and probably won’t go very far in life.

Besides we have little Vurnon who always got looked over in favour of Cabaye despite doing nothing wrong. Perhaps he may get a chance now? Maybe with him and De Jong we are now moving away from France and looking at Holland for transfers?

Ah well, C’est la vie. Or should that be het leven gaat door?

  1. Apparently he’s a good hold up player with an eye for goals. He’ll have a baptism of fire on Sunday though.

Looks like the Grenier deal is off. Or certainly he doesn’t fancy the move if latest quotes are true.

So as I said already, Cabaye out De Jong only one in.

Brilliant balance sheet though. We should have about £50m in the bank!

I hear they’re laminating the latest set of accounts and putting them in the trophy cabinet. No news on the open top bus parade yet though. But I guess it would blow away anyway…

  2. Hope it works out for this guy. Has all the attributes to be a top striker it just remains to be seen if we play to his strengths. Not Pardews strong point In my opinion.

I would agree with Scott. I would much prefer to see us after Siem De Jong instead of the French lads. Mostly because I’ve not see much of them.

Also as I’ve said before I think Lewis Holtby would be a good buy and I’d probably go for him over the French lads. Hardly set the world a light at Tottenham but I don’t think he has had a proper chance. I’ve liked what I’ve seen of him though.

  3. Looks like people were right and City’s away form will be too poor to win the title. 😆
(I need to be smug about that after getting the striker prediction wrong) 😕

    😆 😆 Quality.

Bit of a quandry over who’s the bigger liar – a mouthpiece of Ashley… or a Frenchman?

Good grief. I think it isn’t the Frenchman. 😆

Can’t see us getting a Grenier or Cabella, and that is where Ashley’s model comes apart. You can attract a Cabaye on his way up, but once you’ve reached our level, you need to attract established players of that quality… and who the **** would come to a club with this business model?

I hope we’re all proved wrong, but I suspect that’s our window done.

Bid placed earlier; player (or those close to him) seemed to suggest he wanted deal. But 10million Euro bid not enough.

So, I guess there will be around 7 hours of quiet on here before the end of the world draws nearer.. opps I mean the end of the transfer window 😛

  8. Kim – I don’t believe a word from any of these twitter Jornos either to be honest. Lyon confirm bid but I have yet to hear them reject anything.
I believe we are still working on things and probably will til the window closes.

Re De Jong – he just needs the Geordie love. Get an early goal and get the toon army behind him.
I’ve got him down to score the winner against the scum.

  9. I do hope Pardew gets a grip on saturday. The last thing I want him to do is underestimate them. We need to treat them like Manu.

      (Quote)

  10. whoa! 😯 Sharpy are you saying that twitter and more importantly, the journo’s sending them are no to be believed!! 😆 That is a scandalous accusation mate!! 😆

  11. Geordie love?

If he has a few bad games he’ll be dog ***** waste of money and cast aside.

If he scores he’ll be a God.

    Geordie fans are fickle.

Hope Cisse recovers soon. Best striker we have to put the ball in the net.

I have just put that statement into google translate and it came out with this…
“If Newcastle offer me enough money I am on the first bus out of Lyon, make no mistake about that!”
Wow, who would have thought! 😆

      (Quote)

  15. Santii 😆 It’s actually a new service called “google – footballer translate”
All you need to do is put any player quote into it and hey presto, the real meaning comes out!
    Like this quote from DeJong.
“I just want to show my talent, score goals and be successful again. That is why I’m here.
Google footballer translate comes out with…
” Those ****** in Germany thought I was **** and wouldn’t give me a game. I hope the same thing doesn’t happen here!” 😯 😆

      (Quote)

  16. I don’t know much about Grenier but from what i understand, he has potential.

I’m not too keen on signing him because we have a terrible track record when it comes to developing players with potential.

      (Quote)

  17. KK, when you first started posting on here, I didn’t know much about you but you looked like you had potential. It seems that our bad track record has struck again and you really haven’t shown any development at all over your time here 😆 😆

  18. Lol aussie 😆

I’ve spent too much time paying attention to you 😆 & trying to talk (non?)sense when Newkie’s around!

You on the other hand have regressed so far backwards under Troy’s tutelage you’re coming out of his backside!

You’re a lost cause with no hope. It’s time to call it a day

    Meow.

  27. Kim…I have a multi-gym and a treadmill…it’ll take me until October to get all the cobwebs off though 😆

So does that mean Remy will be ok for Saturday then? I doubt they have a cat in hells chance of winning the appeal but if it means he’d be ok for the scum game I’d take the extra game ban bearing in mind that where we are now in the league is probably where we’ll finish(give or take) regardless off owt else.

      (Quote)

  28. Richie 😆
On Remy appeal I’m not too sure mate, but would be handy to be able to play him , must be the reason they are appealing otherwise makes no sense as unlikely to find in our favour imo. I see Norwich are appealing Johnsons red too.

      (Quote)

  29. Doesn’t look like we are going to get Grenier but were we ever knowing our lot. For me I can’t understand why we haven’t gone for Siem De Jong. He can leave Ajax, scores goals from midfield, is the current captain of Ajax, only 25 and his brother is at the toon. Think the reason we haven’t gone for him is that we might actually get him and old Joe doesn’t actually like signing players.

      (Quote)

  30. Aussie@21 😆

Richie, I’m expecting you to put up a little rocky-esque montage of your training, preferably to some 80s synth pop, 1. because that music is made for such montages and 2. because it will remind you of the era of your playing days 😛

      (Quote)

  31. @AUSSIE

u still excited by the flood of new arrivals 😛 one loanee to replace Remy when he’s off… hmmm

tick tock 1 more day to go…

      (Quote)

  32. Albertstash – he doesn’t want to leave til the end of the season. He wants to win the league with Ajax again first. He’s said he wants a new challenge next season. I think if Luuk signs on a permanent deal then there is every chance we’ll go for Siem in the summer as well. But he’s good mates with Anita so may come anyway.

Richie – how much training do you need to do to play in goal mate?.

Kim – I was laughing my head off at Jose’s comments about WHU

      (Quote)

  33. The appeal is strange, maybe we’re doing it because Norwich are also doing so? But if it clears him to play vs the mackems but he’s banned an extra match, I will take that.

It isn’t just about getting the best chance against sunderland-it’s clear de jong will need time to get fit, sunderland might be too soon but after that he should be ready, and it makes more sense for Remy to sit those out.

      (Quote)

  34. Newkie 😆 consider it done 😛

Sharpy…Goal is the only position I won’t play under any circumstances, I’ll put in a transfer request if ask to do so 👿 😉

      (Quote)

  35. I think it just depends how long it takes the FA to sit on the appeal, if they do it quickly and before the weekend he won’t play(fi the card is upheld) if they sit next week he’ll be able to play.

      (Quote)

  36. So we’ve knew since the summer that Cabaye was leaving. Hopefully we put the wheels in motion and identified a few players to replace him 🙄

      (Quote)

  37. Kim – I’m fairly certain Remy could play as Anelka has continued playing during his disciplinary appeal. I know it’s not a red card offence, but I would have thought until they make their decision the player is free to play.
It may be that they decide to uphold before Saturday, then it won’t matter anyway.
But if Cisse and Gouffran are struggling to make it, then I think we have to try and get Remy in.

      (Quote)

  38. Kim-he will be cleared to play until his appeal is heard-but i don’t yet know when that is . I would guess they would do it tomorrow tho, they’re quite quick on it 😕

      (Quote)

  39. Newkie, Yeah I think maybe they fast track appeals now to stop clubs doing what we are obviously trying to do.

      (Quote)

  40. Heard Kinnear has gone on holiday. Apparently it took it out of him flying up here to have his picture taken with LDJ.

      (Quote)

  41. Kim-yeah, seems like we’re doing it just because Norwich are. Unless we’ve got a nod from someone in the F.A it does seem strange.

      (Quote)

  42. Kim/Richie – if the FA were fair they’d give them both a bollocking and drop the ban. They pushed each other in the chest which is a yellow card offence. The red was for the ‘coming together’ of heads but lets be right, it was nowt really. Neither are really aggressive players with bad disciplinary records. A bit of common sense would be great.

      (Quote)

  43. Sharpy-exactly. Another thing we can take from rugby imo, both of them overstepped the mark but come on a bit of shoving here and there is nowt, it’s part and parcel of competitive sport. Nobody was injured or even close to it. Ref should tell them to calm down, dish out a yellow and send them on their way.

If the appeal is today then we will look silly when they quote Pardew..

      (Quote)

  44. Newkie – we always look silly when anybody quotes Pardew!

Still disappointed we dropped two points at Norwich. Them, Palace and W Ham were streets behind us. Let’s hope the scum are too. Was really pleased with HBA and Sammy and maybe losing Cabaye will be a good thing for us after all. We can place a gold plated and laminated balance sheet in the trophy cabinet. 🙂

      (Quote)

  45. Mark at 48.. bloody hell mate, show a bit of patience will ya! They will come! Mark my words! 😯 (fecking going to come back and bite me that one) 😆

      (Quote)

  46. still got the wallys i see 😆 most here been slaging off cisse 😯 then pin there hopes to a dude that finds the net less than cisse 😆 😆 😆 dream on peeps no wonder we aint won anything for well over 40 years 😯

      (Quote)

  47. TAE – you’re right mate, lets all be miserable *******. We can slag off the manager and DOF and spot at the very mention of Mike Ashley!.
Life as a toon fan is so **** isn’t it – what’s the fucking point. Why even kick a ball when we could just surrender the points straight away.
All they care about is the balance sheet so **** it!. 😛

      (Quote)

  48. Georgio 😆

TAE-I think you will find most people don’t have a problem with Cisse’s goal record per se, the problem they have is his general footballing ability. Remy has both. If Cisse is scoring then it doesn’t matter, but the fact is he really doesn’t help the team out much otherwise. It’s not just a stat for assists or whatever, it’s just the way you see the game being played. If De Jong scores less but contributes more, well, welcome along I say.

      (Quote)

  49. So we are appealing the red card and the hearing is today 😯 that means we will be without Remy for 4 games including the Derby . It just goes too show the incompetence of our club ,they are appealing so he could play against the Scum but dont even know the rules and procedures 🙄 🙄 🙄 i dont know wether too laugh or cry ,you would think you would get used to it by now but then they come time and again with another prized **** up

      (Quote)

  50. Tae, so fans pinning their hopes on the wrong striker is the reason we have won nothing of late? Bloody hell, why didnt you mention it ..say.. 40 years ago ! 😉
