Game On! Newcastle v Everton

Game On at St James' Park
Game On at St James’ Park
Tonight it’s the visit of Everton we’re covering, and you can catch and contribute to all the immediate action and reaction here in this very article.

A second home game in succession will leave United fans hopeful of a second win in succession against a strong Everton side who have their eyes on a late run at the Champions League spaces.

However, as I said in my match preview (online here, a win for United would close the gap on Everton which could catapult us into contention for a late charge at that final Europa League space. Not that the club would find it worthwhile but still…

If you’ve used the link in the last paragraph to have a nosey at the match preview then good on you. If you haven’t, do so, because it’s full of injury news for both sides, some waffle about the season to date, a look at the history of the fixture and some stats and facts thrown in for good measure.

Our game is once again not being shown live here in the UK. For some reason the media are preoccupied with two teams from Manchester who also go head-to-head this evening. However the good news is that our friends overseas are broadcasting the game so hopefully picking up a stream shouldn’t be too much of an issue and those unable to go to the game in person can still watch it. There are usually some links posted in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news will be available roughly one hour prior to kick-off and is usually posted in the comments before we can get it published fully so if you’re not twitterised and can’t get it off there take a look below. We will of course update it the site as soon as possible.

That neatly wraps it up and covers all my bases so now it’s up to you guys and girls to dissect the team news, the match and anything that may come to pass as and when it happens. I’m working so have fun.

  1. What a top class two minutes there. Anita takes a quick corner with HBA off the pitch, and Marveaux kicks it straight out. Magnificrap..

  3. Players had about 10 mins to get back there but were too busy thinking of where to spend their hols

  4. No panic from Everton.

Pace, patience, passing and clinical. They play as a team, they think as a team.

    Our manager is fcking useless.

  5. a lesson in counter attacking skill. with an end product 👿
    total and utter pants

  6. Newkie – I’m talking squad for squad mate. A better manager and better coaches could and would get so much more out of this bunch.
I’m sick and fucking tired of watching **** football.

  7. Just goes to show how far we are off even the likes of Everton.

Completely toothless in midfield and attack. Defence a bag of **** too!

So much work to do its frightening and I really don’t think this regime is even half good enough to do it. Shame as we could be a canny side if we had any ambition in transfer windows.

  8. Hello Alan? You still there? It’s not looking as good as we hoped. No. 0-3 now but on the bright side there’s very little time left. Shall I tell the lads to play possession football?

      (Quote)

  9. I think a tactical lesson by Martinez high pressing in poor players like ours you recover the ball all the time after 5 seconds.

      (Quote)

  10. Colo buggered up there but he’s been carrying the defense all night.

Willo is only decent when clearing long balls against other donkey sides like us, then he does a good job. Against a quick passing side that keeps the ball on the deck, he’s poor.

Dummett completely out of his depth. Needs to go on loan and learn his trade. Mbiwa is not a right back. Anita certainly isn’t a right back.

  11. Sharpy-i’m not disagreeing about the improvement that good manager/coaches would bring. But not many evertonians would swap their squad for ours either imo, whether it’s first 11 or not.

      (Quote)

  12. Why did we play that free kick short, then go back into our own half, when we are losing 3-0 ffs ? 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿

      (Quote)

  13. Newkie,

I wouldn’t swap Everton’s squad under Martinez for ours either. But I’d love to see how decent our players can be when they don’t have a clueless bafoon coaching them.

Don’t think any of them are playing anywhere near their potential. Whereas Everton’s players are playing near their peak potential.

That’s what a good manager does. Gets players playing their best as a team.

Pardew never has and never will be able to do that.

      (Quote)

  14. JJ-Agree there. Our defence is bit of a motley crue. Dummett with about ten starts and a left footed centre back at right back. It needs addressing, we need back up for Debuchy because he is bound to get injured or go absent on internationals and get the odd ban. How this wasn’t addressed in the summer is mental let alone in january.

      (Quote)

  15. Just swapping managers would make a hell of a lot of difference.
    A man with a football brain v a dinosaur.
    no contest.
Pathetic game plan once again. But really poor individual skills from most of our players too.
    utter ****

      (Quote)

  16. JJ-We go at this every match though. It’s up to the fatman to sack Pardew and he is too tight to pull the trigger. Doesn’t seem like there is any sacking point bar relegation and there is no ambition to seek out a top innovative coach.

      (Quote)

  17. Time for PArdew to change Anita, Gouffran, Sissoko, or change them position.
Because easy to drop Benny, Marveau after 20 minutes of a bad game. BUt these players are playing bad since 3 months now and seem comfortable.

      (Quote)

  18. We’ve had two or three good performances all season.

The win at Old Trafford. Against a **** poor Man United. Who hasn’t won there this season?

The win against Chelsea where we did well.

The win against Stoke were we were being battered till we ended up playing 9 men.

    And the win against Hull.

The rest has been lucky scraped wins against the shittest premiership sides in decades and lucky flukes. Played ***** football all season.

If it wasn’t for Cabaye and Remy, who are not our players. We’d be in the relegation fodder again.

      (Quote)

  19. Not to excuse the manager, staff or players. But Everton are playing for Champions league, and seeing as only 6th place gets euro this year -we are playing for nowt.

Doesn’t forgive that joke of a performance from all concerned but it always has an impact. Just as it did for WBA and Swansea after they secured top 10 last year and went **** from feb onwards.

      (Quote)

  20. Hello Johnny? One last comment for the lads. I like the way we’re coming along. We have and attacking identity now. We move well. We know where we belong. We’re a mid table club. Beautiful.

      (Quote)

  21. Newkie @189,

Haha, I know it won’t happen mate, but its not going to stop me bitching about it when I’ve had to sit though 90 minutes of that *****.

Only positive is at least Cisse looks to be coming back to something near where he was.

      (Quote)

  22. NEWKIE@189 bloody spot on ,sick of saying that, footy coaching has moved on,pity jabba will stick with the 80s Ime afraid

  23. Dread to think I’ll we’ll play on Saturday if we look this lack lustre tonight, Pards will be giving it the old we was tired from Tuesday bollocks. 🙄

      (Quote)

  24. Got Claude Debussy’s Clair de lune playing in the background to try and mellow me out now , well it’s made Lew tired anyways 😉

      (Quote)

  25. Well, that was complete *****. To think I stayed up till almost 2 in the morning for that ****. They played like a Sunday league side. I’ve seen more energy and determination from a festering pile of parrot droppings…

      (Quote)

  26. I see a huge offensive outburst coming against Southampton. One shot on goal (accidental, off Gouffy’s left ********) and at least 1 other shot missing. De Jong will try to strike the ball towards net and fail. Benny will not start as he’s a bit out of shape. It will only be our 32nd game of the season after all.

      (Quote)

  27. Newkie – of course they wouldn’t, their team is playing bloody good football. Is that coz they have outstanding players though or is it coz they have a manager and coaching staff who are getting the best out of them.
Man for man they are not that much better – if at all. But they have a manager who has them playing with a purpose. The players themselves have commented on Martinez being a better tactical manager than Moyes.

Pardew and his coaching staff simply aren’t good enough.

      (Quote)

  28. Well another team set up with work man attitude. a right midfielder constantly coming inside leaving a centre half playing at right back to deal with 2 players. players taking out swinging corners. which a are totally pointless. a centre forward playing behind the striker.

he really needs to change things against southampton. start ben arfa and marveaux from the off.

    Dummett isnt good
every goal went over Kruls. head why is he always on the floor.

you could see after 10 minutes that formation wasnt working so why does he persavire with it until 65 minutes.

    Fuming

      (Quote)

  29. And to think I said at the start of this article I would settle for a draw and good performance 🙄 meh, bollocks to it.

      (Quote)

  30. Well that was pretty pathetic. So many players are just nowhere near good enough for the next step up. Add to that the pathetic “coaching” that has them playing an ineffective system and it’s a pretty depressing watch.

Ashley making noises is clearly to try to increase season ticket sales as who would buy one given these displays.

Mbiwa is not a right back, so let’s stop pretending he is. Dummett, as of now, is nowhere good enough reminds me of Ramage and Huntingdon, means well but doesn’t have talent. De Jong at least is a loan. Shola is a waste of a subs place. Marveaux has been destroyed/has a terrible attitude/wasn’t good enough either way he is a disgrace in his cameos- today he hit one of the worst crosses I’ve ever seen. HBA is trying to carry a whole team but comes on when it’s too late.

I could go on but essentially we need whole scale change.

      (Quote)

  31. Well I know pardew and company are poor tactics wise, but at least I expect at home is we have a “go”as a team, silly me

      (Quote)

  32. Martinez changed his midfield today and regularly rotates those players – Barkley, Osman, Pinnaer, Naismith, Mirallas, Deulofeu and McGeady.
The rest of his team stays the same where possible – to ensure his defence has that stability and continuity.
But rotating the attacking midfielders makes it harder for the opposition to set up and defend against.

Unlike Pardew, who plays the same predictable 11 week in week out. No game plan on how to play against his opponent. It’s fucking **** and I’m sick of it now like!. The man is one dimensional and the law of averages means that we will get a result playing this way – but I can’t remember to last good performance we turned in. The last time we played good football or dominated a team.

      (Quote)

  33. Ice, Spot on mate ,it was pretty bloody awful from every player tonight and what gets me is we only have one plan B as well- Benny or Marv or god forbid Shola 🙁 . To expect those players to get us out the **** every time isn’t on . If Pards thinks they can do that then play them from the fecking start , who knows their attitude may even improve if faith is shown in them. Truth is he can’t handle flair players that’s why he wants no nonsense guys like Shawcross to come in.

      (Quote)

  34. Same **** different day.

Same team. Same formation. Same tactics of keeping it tight until 60mins, throw Ben Arfa on followed by Shola – it’s the way animals think. Do the same thing regardless of circumstance & expect something good to happen.

It’s ridiculous how a forward (Gouffran) is expected to provide cover for a fullback, play as a winger & as a forward! It’s almost impossible to do that unless you’re a box to box midfielder like sissoko.

Gouffran was rubbish because he needed a rest. How many time have we already seen this same problem? The squad needs to be rotated for midweek games.

No Ben Arfa or Marv starting means we start without any creativity. Typical & in line with our overally cautious approach.

We’re at St James ffs! Teams should be scared of playing us here just as teams are scared of going to Anfield.

    @JJ
You seem to know what Pardew/Carver are going to do before they do! It’s unbelieveable!!

    @Sharpy17
Perfect point. Everton don’t have a billionaire owner. They don’t buy worldclass players like Ozil for £40m. They have a squad that is about as good as our squad yet they are still challenging Arsenal for 4th!

If everything was kept the same but we just swapped coaches & manager – we would be where they are now.

We don’t need a high profile top class manager. We need one that is smart & willing to learn. Managers like Rodgers & Martinez actually study the game. Pardew, Allardyce etc are still stuck with football from the last centuary.

      (Quote)

  35. Marveaux has been good enough when he has had a consistent run in the team.

It’s the same with Ben Arfa.

I don’t expect them to be able to win the game in 15mins so i’ve no idea why Pardew does?

If he thought they were THAT good then start them ffs!

    And rotate the f*cking team!!!!

      (Quote)

  36. We’re not even on course to get 60pts!

    60pts is the minimum.

    Whether that’s finishing 11th or 6th it doesn’t matter.

    60pts.

  37. I am a little bit flabbergasted that we seem to be sticking to this formation and players who are clearly not performing.

Who have we beat without Remy and Cabaye? Palace (just). They’ll not be here next season so for me I am totally and utterly disenchanted with this club. The summer will be huge and I have just no confidence in this regime to do what is required.

      (Quote)

  38. KK i couldnt agree more, bring marveaux and ben arfa for 15 minutes when were 2 nil down. then idiots still have the audacity to slate them when we dont come back.

Those 2 look like the only ones capable of finding space and picking a pass.

Start them both from the go. get ameobi and gosling off then bench and put armstrong and arons on.

I guarantee he will start the same team against southampton

  39. @kimtoon

I don’t know why it hurts, i know how **** Pardew & co are – i knew what to expect but it’s still bloody annoying!

What a **** way to go to bed.

    Still, i need sleep…..

  40. Most of us on this blog know what needs to be done,I think even jabba knows and that’s why he will not change it because that means moving forward,he is happy just to stay in the PL so will do nowt, sooner fans understand that the sooner fans might just stay away, otherwise nothing will change, but don’t worry they will start again.with all the **** they have fed us for 7yrs and fans will bye it,not this fellow

      (Quote)

  41. @alex
I hope your wrong but history shows us that we’ll see the same team with the same tactics & subs.

As Sharpy17 has said, it’s the law of averages that we will eventually get a win using the same formulaic rubbish.

      (Quote)

  42. Funny old night. A mixture of good and bad. Good from Colo, Tiote (MOM) Cisse Sissoko and Anita. Shockers from Mbiwa. , Dummer and Williamson. Poor from Gouffran and De Jong.
Everton played 2014 football with a high defensive line. 3 at the back and pressed the ball extremely well. We played something from the 1990’s

      (Quote)

  43. Sharpy-I’m a firm believer that every set of fans overrates their own players. Swansea, WBA, West Ham all saw themselves as top 10 certs regardless of their manager. We rate our squad because we know it, but other teams will usually rate some of their players above ours-even those far below us-they will blame their low position to their manager.

Just the way things are. I think Mirallas or Piennar would get in our starting line up tbh (over De Jong, Shola or Armstrong) and they didn’t even play today.

      (Quote)

  44. KK I agree we haven’t really got a good home record this season. We won against Villa and Crystal Palace but a lot of that was luck. Even against Stoke we needed them to have nine men. If our home form was a lot better we would be challenging the top 4 but our away results have been good this season.

      (Quote)

  45. KK we know whats coming though. 70 minutes on the clock bring on ben arfa marv or shola.

i could see after 15 minutes we were being out numbered, sissoke kept coming inside leaving baines **** loads of room. why diddnt he just move sissoko in the midle and take de jong off.

gouffran looked knackered after 30 minutes. so why not put Marveaux on at half time.

What annoys me is you can see Pardew and carver talking on the phone. why not just say sorry alan the lines breaking up and change things. as soon as we went one nil down i knew we were going to get beat.

Pardew is a reactive manager and not a very good one.

      (Quote)

  46. Another thing. what is the fucking point of an out swinging corner. it just gives the defence the chance to push out of the 6 yard box.

      (Quote)

  47. Shock horror. I posted my comment before reading others. When I do read them you all agree with me. I have been right all along.
