How do you feel about our two new signings?

Colback - Changing colours
Colback – Changing colours
So we’ve signed two players, on permanent deals. Bring out the banners and stop the press! This kind of things doesn’t happen often.

Ayoze Perez has joined us from Tenerife whilst Jack Colback has joined us from our bitter rivals on Wearside, with rather amusing reactions from those of a red and white persuasion as a result.

To be honest I can’t really knock the Colback transfer. We picked him up for nowt and he’s a tidy player. Nothing spectacular and certainly no replacement for Yohan Cabaye, but he’ll do a job and despite his time spent at Sunderland, he is actually a United fan so he’ll give his all for us and at least we’ll have one player in our ranks who knows what it means to play in a Tyne-Wear derby!

Speaking of which, many fans have reservations about him purely because of his reaction after recent derby victories for Sunderland. I suggest people get over it and realise that he was just doing a job for the club who actually gave him a breakthrough in the Premier League. Alan Shearer celebrated enough goals against us before he joined us which is worth pointing out. He was just doing his job.

I can’t really comment on Perez as I can’t say my personal knowledge of the Spanish second division is up there with the best. He sounds like a decent enough prospect though but we don’t exactly have a great record of developing prospects do we? Plus he is said to be small, technical and pacey, which isn’t the kind of player that Pardew seems to like. He’s not even a left-back for goodness sake!

So back to my original question. How do I feel about these two new signings. Uninspired I guess. Yes we need our squad building but that is through the neglect from the past few transfer windows, but we also need our first team strengthened and whilst Colback may strengthen it overall, I’d like to think we have our eyes on better players to plug those gaps in the first team.

I’m in danger of sounding like I’m clamouring for superstar signings. I’m not. But I do want the first team strengthened and for me neither of these should be doing that.

That is why I’m underwhelmed…

  1. Bollox. But good game. Such drama. Wonderful world cup for attacking football, and everything else as well.

      (Quote)

  2. Well disappointing finish obviously but probably a fair result for both sides. Thought we played hard and played some good stuff (for us) so heads held high.

      (Quote)

  3. Bris…You still over there then and how’s it going? just one more question, were you the fat hairy guy in the ‘roo suit? 😉

      (Quote)

  4. “Newcastle do not believe they need another centre-back, with Steven Taylor, Mike Williamson and skipper Fabricio Coloccini all set to fill those roles next term.”

Well that’s Ok then. They had 2 magnificent seasons so why change things. 😥

      (Quote)

  5. Sharpy – 41 goals in a season. No pens either. Robledo was king before Andy Cole did the same thing and in my opinion he was the best striker we ever had.

      (Quote)

  6. Georgio – aye the Wiki link Richie stuck up suggests the bloke knew where the goal was like.
Trouble is both my dad and grandad are mackems, so while I was raving about Andy Cole and Keegans lots, there was nee one there saying ‘aye he’s canny, but he’s nee Robledo’ or whoever else.

  7. So, now we can add Swansea to the teams we can’t complete financially with. This is actually turning into some surreal dream I think…

I am going to stick my neck out and reckon we can compete with Burnley. i hope i am not proved wrong.

      (Quote)

  8. Georgio – if we’re getting rid of MYM we need another CB for me. Ideally Caulker, but defo we’d need another coz if Colo got a long term injury we’d be screwed. Plus, I can’t remember a season when Saylor wasn’t laid up at some point.
I know we have the likes of Good in the squad but he’s totally untested.

      (Quote)

  9. SHARPY,I agree mate but forget it,pardew says he’s happy with the defenders we already have,he’s the only one imo ,clubs a money machine for jabba and we just have to except that mate, just enough to. hopefully keep us in PL end of 🙁

  10. Ice – I’m reading today that we’ve turned our nose up at Valencia as well now – probably due to money.
I’m getting a bit worried about who we are going to sign now like – or not as the case seems to be.

Stu – we can compete with Swansea finacially, the money is there it’s just the numpties won’t spend it!.
I think Gomis will replace Bony and Swansea will make a tidy profit – Ashley will kick himself as that profit could have been his!.
I see they are looking to sign Sigurdsson as well according to the papers.

  11. There are probably real problems at the Toon in signing players but how are we to know. The club (if there’s anybody there) have said nothing at all. Pardew’s still away. Charboy’s just returned (amazing how many rumours there were while he was on a 2 week holiday) so where the NCJ journos are getting their rumours – god only knows. Probably the greenkeepers.

We all know what we need and it’s still possible we’ll get them. We’ll see. Can’t help remembering Charboy’s statement of 2 players a year and Pardew’s we want all our business done before the WC.
    Perez and Colback?

      (Quote)

  12. Here’s my point – it’s swirling away that Lassoga walked out of the meeting because Charboys offer was too low. He was on holiday.

PEA is now available for only 8m euros but we’re not that interested. Gomis preferred Swansea over the Toon.

    All bollocks!

  13. I know the window hasn’t actually opened yet but seems to be an awful lot of activity with other clubs. Other than Perez who isn’t a purple and Colback who was free what the hell are we doing 😕

      (Quote)

  14. Our lot all go on holiday apparently while other clubs have someone getting players over the line 😉

      (Quote)

  15. Kim – it’s not activity (yet) but more and more rumours. When does the window open again?

      (Quote)

  16. Just seen clips of American fans watching back in the states at fan parks, massive crowds watching. Think this football malarkey is finally taking off over there 😉

      (Quote)

  17. Kim

I think they always show that type of support for the national team i think their biggest problem is no one watches the MLS. Think they all watch the European stuff a lot more.

And its “soccer malarkey” get it right 😆

      (Quote)

  18. Santii the new MLS tv deal with ESPN goes into effect next season and is triple their current one so people are starting to watch.

But you are right about the WC crowds. I’ve been watching down at my local which has been a madhouse and would say probably a third of the crowd are the diehards like me who come in every Saturday morning to watch the Prem. Another third are fans of the sport that only really get into the big tournaments. Then you have the people who are just looking to get and chant U-S-A on a Sunday afternoon.

Still better than it used to be and growing every year

      (Quote)

  19. MDS, It’s certainly very different to how it used to be though, nice to see it and the team are doing you all proud too.

      (Quote)

  20. Kim they’re an honest hardworking bunch which makes them easy to root for. Also doesn’t hurt to finally have a manager who knows what the hell he’s doing and who isn’t afraid of the big stage

      (Quote)

  21. Just been reading a few reports on the German lad going to Hamburg,he was in toon having a look round at ground and training grounds, sat down to talk personal terms but was so insulted with the offer he got up and walked out of room, now he’s a greedy git or we tried to get him on the cheap but to walk out it must have been bad,I give up with set of arseholes
so if his move to Hamburg breaks down no way will he come here

      (Quote)

  22. Ice – the german kid. He’s not that great. The meeting in town was just a rumour, Charnley was away on holiday. Him and his mother are both in love with him.

      (Quote)

  23. So reports now say Gomis has only met Swansea for talks and he’s set to meet us and other PL clubs this week. At 29 he’ll be after one last big pay day so he most likely won’t be coming to us.

      (Quote)

  24. Kim I agree with everything Andy Cole says. Just hope one day I turn Sky sports on to find out Ashley’s gone.

      (Quote)

  25. Does Ashley not know the transfer windows open ? His going to seat on all the cash and do absolutely nothing. His a pig **** owner.

      (Quote)

  26. Kim – yeah I’ve just had SSN on and they are saying he’s still in talks with Swansea. Personally I’d like us to sign the lad. But honest, I just want him to sign for someone coz I’m sick of this saga now!!.

I think Georgio is probably right, in that most people will be on their jollies either at our club, or the club were wanting to buy from. I’m hoping that come the 1st July we may see a bit more activity with both incoming and outgoings

      (Quote)

  27. So Michu to join W/ham for 6mil seems strange to me thought he would cost a wee bit more than that???

      (Quote)

  28. Gomis might be going to Swansea. I just read that Michu’s up for grabs at only £8m. Very injury prone but at that price I’d buy him not Gomis.

      (Quote)

  29. £2m more Ice? Be pissed off if he went to WHam at that price. They’ve already brought Zarate back from Argy. I’d have liked him too.

      (Quote)

  30. Michu would play the role that Luuk De Jong was trying to play at the end of last season – only I reckon Michu would play it lot better!.

The thing is though, Michu has looked good in a passing, quick counter attacking Swansea side – would he fit into a Fat Sam or Butter Pardew side?.
I don’t believe that De Jong is as bad as he looked for us, and I’m not sure Michu would be as good for us as he’s been for Swansea.

      (Quote)

  31. GEORGIO our club is a mess mate, even now players can see the club just does not want to move on,just staying in the PL is not enough for them,(what about us) now I see our French right back wants to move on after WC because he wants to play for a club that at least play in the Euro lge,I can understand him our club don’t even want to play in cup games, not looking forward to the new season as I know it will be the same ****

      (Quote)

  32. As much as I can’t blame anyone leaving us with the situation we have at Toon, I would be gutted to lose Debbie 🙁

      (Quote)

  33. It seems everyone is making moves except us, sorry but the two we have gotten already are hardly the purples we need as good as it is to get them like.

      (Quote)

  34. Regarding Debs I never put too much stock in player quotes but you don’t necessarily know the question they are asked and can also lose some of in translation.

Selling him would be a shocking decision. Think he’s worth 20M

      (Quote)

  35. Lost all faith in our club moving forward the type of players we are looking
not to sign shows to me we will never move on with this crowd running/owning our club, ime losing all interest Ime afraid, never mind I will have Gateshead to look to at least they are looking to move forward be it in a minor way

      (Quote)

  36. Ice, I would put more effort into following B. City again but their just as effing bad if not worse than the Toon mate, 🙁

      (Quote)

  37. Sahrpy – LDJ is as bad as he looked for us. Dreadful. Michu is a class player but yeah, injury prone. To think we could have Michu, Zarate and PEA for £20m and business done. 😥

      (Quote)

  38. I have to be honest, I fully expected this situation with Debuchy when we signed him.
His main motivation for joining us was coz his big mate Cabaye was here. As soon as he left I knew it was only a matter of time that Debs would be looking for the door. The fact that we have zero ambition to improve as a club will only add to that. I don’t imagine Ashley will care much coz he’ll know that he’ll make a profit on his £5m.
Debuchy has said recently that his style of play doesn’t fit with Pardews defensive style and he’s probably right to be fair to him. I think Pardew bought him to try and keep Cabaye happy rather than because he fit his style of play.

Personally I’d say sell him, move Santon to right back and play Haidara at LB – providing the money made is invested back into the team – but I doubt it would be.

      (Quote)

  39. Sharpy – you’d sell Debuchy? We have 5/6 good players. Why sell one? He’s talked CL football to French journos, if the translation is correct or the question not loaded. Every player would miss CL but that doesn’t mean he has to go!

      (Quote)

  40. SHARPY is getting in the jabba grove sell em on,we cannot get good players to come to the toon never mind selling the odd ones we have, but that’s the frame of mind the club wants the fans to have,I can see jabba telling pardew thhe same thing ie: move this player there put that player to there, now see we don’t need to buy anyone simples

      (Quote)

  41. Georgio – I’ve seen him quoted as saying that he prefers his football with the national side over NUFC as he’s allowed the freedom to get forward – something he’s not allowed with us. He’s also said that he’d sort his future out after the WC – which would clearly suggest that he’s considering a move.
Players like Tiote and Santon have came out and said that they are settled and happy at NUFC. Any player who said they miss CL footy is looking to move IMO, coz they aren’t even gonna get FA cup football at the toon.
If he doesn’t want to be here and we get offered £15m for him then yeah I’d sell him and buy Caulker for £8m and either Sam Byram from Leeds or Keiran Trippier from Burnley.
But that’s coz I’d reinvest the money – Ashley wouldn’t do that IMO.

      (Quote)

  42. Ice – if Pardew played to Debuchys strengths I’d keep him mate, but he doesn’t and Debuchy isn’t happy having to play a more defensive role.
It’s not the clubs selling grove that’s got me this way mate, it’s the club buying players that just see us as a stepping stone!. I’m sick of players coming and within 6 months they are taking about there next move.

I have to be honest mate, I’ve lost my way with NUFC at the moment. The players don’t play with passion anymore – sell the fucking lot for me!. The manager aims for bonus payments rather than points – sack the *****!. The Chairman doesn’t want to spend money and the owner is consumed with making money – pretty fucking lifeless club we have at the moment I reckon.

      (Quote)

  43. Sharpy, I couldn’t agree more, if Jabba was out to take every last drop of belief from the fans he’s not far off job done. 👿

I have a message for Jabba

Consider the history of the club you own
Understand the reality of our current situation
Never under estimate fans passions for the club
Treat the fans with more respect

    😉

      (Quote)

  44. Could do with an England win, Lew has been poorly since last Friday and we all need cheering up.

      (Quote)

  45. Sharpy – that’s a pain we’re all feeling mate. We’re trying to attract players with a dumbo manager, a board with no ambition and an owner who is only concerned with money. We offer them relatively low wages and a promise to sell them if they impress in the PL. Good way to build a team and sell season tickets 😳

      (Quote)

  46. Kim – what’s your thoughts on the England team tonight?.
I can understand Roy wanting to give some players a game, but personally I think he should be picking the strongest side whether we’re out or not. There’s alot of fans who have paid alot of money to go and watch this game and they and we deserve to see us get 3 points from this WC. It will be tough enough anyway, but to go out getting no points at all having played a weakened side in the last game is a bit of an insult personally.

      (Quote)

  47. When Debuchy was talking about not being allowed to play an attacking game he was referring to his first season, When we were in a very precarious position and couldnt be gung ho.

Last season he was flying up and down the wing. He set up four (joint highest for a defender in the premier league) attempted 3 crosses per game and scored once.

The problem was the people further upfield who couldnt hit a barn door with a medicine ball

      (Quote)

  48. Sharpy, It’s only pride left to play for now, I suppose it should be his strongest team but then again there are players who he may feel deserve a run out and with others their heads might not be in the right place after the let down of the previous two games. Who ever he plays I want to see a good show and win and will be pissed off if I get anything else .

      (Quote)

  49. CC, that’s very true but he did say he’d see after the WC which does sound ominous really. I do fear he could be away like.

      (Quote)

  50. Georgio – I don’t think it’s a good way to build a team though mate. It builds a squad of talented but selfish individuals. A ‘team’ work hard for each other, I don’t see that when I watch Newcastle. There’s 2 reasons for that – the first is because they know that Pardew won’t drop them – he doesn’t have the squad or the balls!. The 2nd is that they don’t give a **** about the club, and why should they, the manager and board don’t so why should they?!.
As for selling season tickets, well I’d be interested to see just how many have been sold – and just how many fans turn up to the City game if we don’t properly strengthen the team before that game. I reckon it may well be televised so how many will choose to watch it in the pub or at home – if at all.

      (Quote)

  51. Kim – pride would be more than enough for me like. I’m not so sure Foster, Smalling, Jones or Milner deserve to be in the squad let alone game a game personally.
I would rather see him play Sterling than Milner and that forward 4 would be one for the future I reckon.

CC – yeah, as Kim says, Debuchy has still said that he’d review this future after the WC – I hope he’s not expecting an improved contract with NUFC?!.

      (Quote)

  52. Sharpy@814, Fair point but the others didn’t exactly cover themselves in too much glory, other than the Italy game was good in parts.

      (Quote)

  53. Kim – 6% my ****! I bet it’s at least 10%.

As for England, I thought both games they done ok to be honest. We didnt play bad, we just didnt convert the chances we had. I thought Roy got it wrong against Italy in playing Rooney on the left, and I personally wouldn’t ever start with Welbeck. I also think Johnson is gash and there’s no alternative in this squad.

      (Quote)

  54. Sharpy, I wouldn’t argue with that but I would be inclined to not play Rooney at all.

      (Quote)

  55. Kim – Rooney does alot of work for the team, but I think both England and Man Utd need to decide where they want to play him. If he’s a forward, then he needs to be told to stay up there and do all his work in the final third – coz for me he does too much tracking back and spends alot of time in non dangerous areas.

I like him at no. 10. I’d have liked to have seen Sterling on one side of him and either Walcott or AOC the other side. Or Rooney behind a front 2 of Sturridge and Lambert and have a 3 man midfield of Lallana left, Gerrard in the middle and Wilshire or Henderson on the right.

      (Quote)

  56. Kim/Sharpy

I agree it was ominous as soon as Cabaye left but im not of the opinion that Pardew has hindered Debuchy hes one of his very few credits from last season, If anthing the ammount of times our full backs get caught upfield (Particularly Santon) we should reign them in a bit more.

Thought watching NUFC from january on was a chore, This is turgid

      (Quote)

  57. Sharpy, I simply cannot stand Rooney the sooner he hangs up his boots for England the better.

      (Quote)

  58. Suarez biting again the dorty fecker, hope he gets a ban and misses the rest of the WC 👿
