So we’ve signed two players, on permanent deals. Bring out the banners and stop the press! This kind of things doesn’t happen often.

Ayoze Perez has joined us from Tenerife whilst Jack Colback has joined us from our bitter rivals on Wearside, with rather amusing reactions from those of a red and white persuasion as a result.

To be honest I can’t really knock the Colback transfer. We picked him up for nowt and he’s a tidy player. Nothing spectacular and certainly no replacement for Yohan Cabaye, but he’ll do a job and despite his time spent at Sunderland, he is actually a United fan so he’ll give his all for us and at least we’ll have one player in our ranks who knows what it means to play in a Tyne-Wear derby!

Speaking of which, many fans have reservations about him purely because of his reaction after recent derby victories for Sunderland. I suggest people get over it and realise that he was just doing a job for the club who actually gave him a breakthrough in the Premier League. Alan Shearer celebrated enough goals against us before he joined us which is worth pointing out. He was just doing his job.

I can’t really comment on Perez as I can’t say my personal knowledge of the Spanish second division is up there with the best. He sounds like a decent enough prospect though but we don’t exactly have a great record of developing prospects do we? Plus he is said to be small, technical and pacey, which isn’t the kind of player that Pardew seems to like. He’s not even a left-back for goodness sake!

So back to my original question. How do I feel about these two new signings. Uninspired I guess. Yes we need our squad building but that is through the neglect from the past few transfer windows, but we also need our first team strengthened and whilst Colback may strengthen it overall, I’d like to think we have our eyes on better players to plug those gaps in the first team.

I’m in danger of sounding like I’m clamouring for superstar signings. I’m not. But I do want the first team strengthened and for me neither of these should be doing that.

That is why I’m underwhelmed…

  2. Kim – I don’t like Rooney but he’s a good player to have in the team – shouldn’t be nailed on choice though.

    Richie – aye, Gnasher up to his old tricks again – defo a bite or attempt bite from what I’ve seen on ITV like – he has to get a lengthy ban from ALL football for me. He won’t like, and the bindippers will be defending him no doubt.

  7. He looked well sheepish at the end, but the question is will FIFA do anything about it. Apparently they are waiting on a report from the official and collecting evidence. If that’s the case nothing will get done because the official took no action presumably because he saw nothing 😕 . They only have to look at video stills and that close up the BBC just showed of teeth marks to know they HAVE to do the right thing. Still they are a gutless bunch of twats and it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets away with it.

  23. Suarez should be shot, he’s a fucking animal. Liverpool fans will still worship him though seeing as he’s dragging them into the champions league/league title race on his own. If he wasn’t they wouldn’t get so defensive over the fact that he is doing exactly that, and they’d do the honorable thing and get rid.

    Gutted for Tiote now 😐 he played poorly though and Ivory Coast have never turned up this WC, fair play to greece they take their chances… 😐

  25. The worst thing with Suarez is that he pretends to have been injured himself. Can you imagine if he won a penalty rolling round holding his face like that?!.

    BBC have just read his post match comments – Suarez has said that these things happen in the box. It was a coming together of shoulder and face and he got hit in the eye! 😯
    The dirty cheating **** can’t even lie convincingly – he walked away holding his teeth – he didnt hold his eye once!.
    Horrible dirty lying cheating shitbag, I hope they ban the **** for life!.

  27. MDS-I have had a soft spot for Greece ever since I won 200 betting on them to win the Euros in 2004. That was after the group stage unfortunately, before the tournament started some bookies had them at 500-1!

    They do play gash football but today I thought they did well, they hit the bar/post three or four times and could have had some screamers….Ivory coast didn’t turn up unfortunately. If it makes you feel any better I’m sure they won’t make it past their next match 😛

Maybe if he at least recognised what he did was wrong he could be shown some leniency, but the fact is he’s done this three times now and shows no remorse and clearly hasn’t learned his lesson. Apparently FIFA can ban him for 24 weeks, personally I’d ban him from the sport for life.

    Mutu got a big ban for cocaine but personally I don’t see how failing a coke test is worse than biting three separate people on three different occasions and gloating/lying about it afterwards rather than showing remorse!

If only he’d man up admit it and show some form of contrition they might not hammer him, but he’s too dumb or arrogant to realise this. I’m glad I’m not a Liverpool fan at this time, it’s humiliating having that animal as your talisman, in years gone by they would never hang on to such a person but hey money speaks.   37. Its all well and good looking for strikers, but in all honesty what we really need are players who can service and supply balls into the forwards.
    If Parsnip thinks a couple of good goal scorers is all we need for next season, then he is in for a real shock.
    I am dreading next season already 🙁
    We virtually need a whole new team of first teamers and a fair amount of good back up players too.
    It would seem the plan is not to buy until we have sold.
    It would also seem that no one wants to buy the dross we already have.

  38. This is going to be a long painful summer on the transfer front, I cant see us getting in all the players we need. I do think we will get in another 2 or 3 but we need 5 maybe 6. Things not looking good for next season. If things dont start well I wonder how long it will take Ashley to sack Pardew

  41. How can we sell players like Obertan and Jonas when clubs have better options on less money ? We our stuck with them until there contract runs out. Same with Cisse who might not ever fully recover and has lacked goals last season.

  43. Stem-I don’t think Oba is on massive wages and I’m clinging to the hope that to save his career he will need to play, and he clearly isn’t going to get that time here. Hoots getting sacked has definitely scuppered the Jonas deal though, he’s on about 50k so will he really accept a big drop in pay? I’m not so sure.

    I’m really hoping Perez can make an impact this season, he’ll be 21 at the start of the season and surely he’ll at least get regular game time from the bench? Who knows, if we don’t sign anyone else he’ll be our number 1 :mrgreen:

    Gutted Debuchy isn’t playing tonight. Was looking forward to seeing him, but will be interesting to see how Sissoko gets on on the right of 3 forwards tonight.
