Match Day Banter

Sorry for the lack of articles, I have been working away all week in 40deg heat and I have been drinking beer in my minimal spare time because it was simply more appealing than typing away in my stuffy hotel room.
Anyway, today we meet QPR at home after another international break. Our form leading up to that break was exceptional and I guess the big question is will we be able to maintain the rage and take another win. QPR are there for the taking if we are good enough but they are no mugs. This has all the hallmarks of a tough affair and if we take this game for granted we will be in for a shock or two.

Hoops v Magpies
Hoops v Magpies

Collo is out injured and Pardew has this list to pick his starting eleven from.
Newcastle United (from): Alnwick, Elliot, Krul, Dummett, Haidara, Janmaat, R Taylor, S Taylor, Williamson, Anita, Bigirimana, Cabella, Colback, Sissoko, Tiote, Vuckic, Ameobi, Armstrong, Cisse, Ferreyra, Gouffran, Perez, Riviere.
I really can’t see any change other than Saylor in for Collo and Tiote for Abeid. It has been reported that Saylor if in doubt for this game and if he is, I am sure Williamson will slot in to take his place. It is a shame for Abeid as the lad was looking really good and it would have been nice to see him continue to get games.
QPR are missing Taarabt and Rednapp has these players to chose from.
Queens Park Rangers (from): Green, McCarthy, Murphy, Caulker, Dunne, Ehmer, Ferdinand, Hill, Isla, Onuoha, Traore, Yun, Barton, Fer, Henry, Hoilett, Kranjcar, Mutch, Phillips, Sandro, Wright-Phillips, Austin, Taarabt, Vargas, Zamora.
It will be interesting to see how the crowd reacts to Joey when he makes his return. He certainly seems to be a popular felon..err fellow, amongst some sections of fans. 🙂

Match Facts:

Newcastle United have won five and lost none of the last six Barclays Premier League meetings with Queens Park Rangers.
In those six meetings, QPR have opened the scoring three times and lost all three, while failing to net in the other three matches.

So if we go by the stats we are looking good for a victory but with Newcastle United you never know what will transpire on any given game day.

Howay the lads!

  2. 4th, it stands, BB, at least until later this evening! Clean sheet again. Good shape, good skills, good persistence.

Next game’s between the division’s two form teams!

  3. QPR are **** but I thought we looked very good from the start. And we aren’t even close to full strength.

    HWTL!!!!

  4. And fair play to Pards…

With Collo, Staylor, Abeid and Tiote out, I wouldn’t have hammered him if he had sat back and played it a bit cautious today. But he kept urging the lads forward and we controlled the match

  5. Very true MDS, he was up against it with injuries and credit where it’s due. But forgive me if I don’t get too carried away just yet, 6 win run is fab BUT we have been on much longer losing runs.
Anyway enjoying it for the moment, all them saying we had a **** squad must be proper squirming now like.

  6. Stu – I was “Pardew in” and I feel pretty bewildered and punch drunk atm. The whole situation is incredible, ridiculous and well-deserved.

  7. I can’t believe we are 4th 🙂 Absolutely great. Now i’m hoping we can get a few players back from injury to stand a better chance against West ham.

  8. Job done. Good 3 points, we deserved the win, thought ref was a little dodgy as we should have defo have had a pen. Perez and Cisse missed big chances but thankfully Sissoko came up with the goods, great team goal too. Nobody was outstanding but there weren’t many poor performances, thought Dummett and Willo did well together too.

  9. Kim @ 115 – have we really been on much longer losing runs than 6 on the trot? I don’t think we did last year did we?

  10. Newkie, it’s funny how everyone seems to look good when paired with Dummett. He made one bad mistake today that I remember but still think we could have one hell of a player in our hands

  11. Can’t forget Raylor. Someone joked on the BBC website earlier about him becoming a great Toon manager – no joking, he’s a keeper as a coach.

      (Quote)

  12. Oh, not this again! Can’t we just enjoy the win and wonder who’ll play in the toon’s last match at Upton Park?

  13. MDS- Agreed, the fact he is so comfortable and both left back and centre back is great too, I think I’d rather see if he can handle the centre back role though. If he gets plenty of game time there this season and does well then he’ll have a big future, because all of our current crop are on the way out really. If we can invest some money and get another youngish centre back then we might finally have a solid cb partnership that can play together for plenty of years ahead, which we haven’t had in god knows how long..

Only bad bit about today really was to see Raylor get injured, yet again. You could see how much it meant to him, hopefully he’s not out for long.

  14. GTE my buddy and I were just saying the same thing. Love to see Raylor have a coaching role with the club.

Hey Troy- do we still have **** squad destined for a relegation scrap?

      (Quote)

  15. Troy@126, Aye I did but you had us finishing lower than that, so much for your faith in Pards, oh hang on that was cause we had a **** squad wasn’t it 😉

      (Quote)

  16. Newkie I hope Lascelles could be that player.

I agree with Dummett at CB. CBs are harder to find and are more expensive. Plus we have Santon and Hadeira at LB who are both still young

  17. Newks@120, you’re joking right. What about last seasons end, 1 win in 8 last games with 3 x 3.0, 2 x 4.0 thumpings along the way . this ran into a 7 game non winning streak this season too. 2012/13 Saw a 5 game winless run with a 7.3 and 6.0 thumping thrown in for good measure. I’m far from convinced we’ll keep this run going but hope to god we do.

  18. Full credit to pardew. I am prepared to concede I was wrong. He is doing a good job and had more foresight than me. Well done to him and I hope his success may continue.

  19. Not a great game if I’m honest, but a great win. Cannot believe we are sitting in 4th place and will stay there if the **** and Mancs can draw…
    Happy days…

  20. if we can achieve 29 points by end of year I will be fairly happy that’s a win from say W.Ham, Burnley and Mackems and a draw from somewhere, possibly Toffees or Manure. Though our recent Derby record under Percy is minging tbf.

  21. True. I’m just feeling cocky at the moment. In my local alwith all the man U, chelsea, and Arsenal fans telling them “shut up, we’re 4th”

      (Quote)

  22. Kim – No I wasn’t joking. You said we had losing streaks which had gone on “far longer” than 6 games. I was just pointing out that I didn’t think we had. Now you’re mentioning “non winning” streak, which is obviously different. I’m not sure what our worst out and out losing streak was/is, I was just interested as to whether it had actually been as bad as 10 losses on the bounce or something.

      (Quote)

  23. Kim I would like us to reach the 30 point mark by xmax. I’m always nervous about injuries happening to key players. If come january we are still in the capitol one cup or near the top 4 then I recommend we get two extra players in. Only as cover. Obertan, Colocini, Taylor, Aaron’s are desperately needed back.

      (Quote)

  24. MDS – Exactly. I was convinced we’d have to lose one of our three young left backs but wasn’t sure who. But if Dummett can get in amongst the CB starting spots when everyone is fit then than might not be an issue. I like all three of them so it would have been a shame to lose one. We’ll be keeping Dummett because he is a local lad anyway even if he is shifted back out to left back. No doubt Ash is rubbing his hands at the thought of developing a young English player too, even if he does have the unfortunate luck to be a Welsh international now…

      (Quote)

  25. Seriously Dummetts going to end up in the England squad sooner rather than later. He impresses me more and more each week…especially at CB

      (Quote)

  26. well if we should somehow continue this incredible run next week too, then Percy will be a shoe in for Manager of the Month for November.
That’s guaranteed to be the kiss of death. 😉
    Credit where its due though.
Every player is putting a shift in lately, whether they are **** or not.
That’s all we have been shouting for at the end of the day.
Every point has been well and truly earned.
It will be a good test next week
    Howay the Lads

      (Quote)

  27. MDS-Sadly yeah he’s already declared. He should have waited, but I guess he figured his chances were slim if he stayed at Newcastle, despite the fact he’s probably already a better centre back than smalling 😆

      (Quote)

  28. It has to be said, that QPR were rubbish today.
I think that rubbed off a little bit too, but you can only beat what is in front of you.
We were by far the better team, with good positive play and attacking intent.
The defence were found out a couple of times, but happily weren’t punished. A massive boost for their confidence.
Less pressure away from home, so the Hammers best not take us lightly.
