So it’s claret and Blue and Deja vu

westhamSo there you are, yet again we contrive to shoot ourselves in the foot. Having gone 1.0 up and taking a tiny bit of control we take our foot off the break and let a very poor QPR over the threshold then compound it by conceding a second and winner of the game. If it was a miracle that Riviere scored after what’s felt like a lifetime then it’s an even bigger one that such a poor QPR side could come out second half and dominate us when we were cruising. When oh when will our players realise they have to fight tooth and nail to stay in this league? We can count ourselves lucky Hull lost today because we still get a second chance to survive against West Ham next week. Had they won I think we’d be all but down already. Not one player for Newcastle can say they played their heart out today and that’s the scary part. Frankly I don’t think they care anymore either, which begs the question why the hell should we?

Our goal difference is terrible and I’m not sure even a point will be enough next week. Once again we are praying Hull slip up next week and Sunderlands form drops. It will be Sunderland, Newcastle and Hull scrapping it out on the last day just like the season we went down. That season was claret &blue opposition on the final day and Hull finished above us and you just know history is gonna repeat it’self.

  1. Simon@148, thanks for admitting that you were also once a **** head mate :-).
We most probably rolled around in the same Bigg Market gutters mate, though I reckon I have a couple of years head start on you 😆 😆

  2. Simon@152, naah mate, I had my peak on the quayside between 1979 and 1984… quaintly entitled from what I recall as the “pint and a fight” era.. well dodgy.. 🙄

  3. STUART@150 after more years than I care to remember I’ve been a fan home and away never have I felt as low as I do now with jabba ime afraid my heart has gone out of the club and never thought I would say it but I don’t care where the club ends up

  4. Anyone notice how absolutely weird Sammy and Cisse were when they came on. They both behaved unbelievably stupidly, taking wild shots and slinging hopeless passes around. I’ve always thought Cisse was an idiot but Sammy as well? And I’d rather play Anita up front than dogshit Riviere again.

      (Quote)

  5. Georgio@155, I noticed that too mate, though to be honest it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary for me. Cisse was always a loose cannon for me, and Sammy can’t do any better bless him… 🙄

  6. I still don’t want us to go down. I hope we get thrashed next week and Hull are winning by one goal at 89 mins but concede on 90.

My only hope is the fans make a more concerted effort to boycott next season.

I simply don’t see Ashley selling up if we go down. He will get the huge parachute payment and protect his cash cow.

A promotion season would give the gullible fans false hope again.

I don’t think relegation is the solution.

      (Quote)

  7. Just heard G Monk talking he said he thinks they have done quite well this
season but they are going to buy six new players to try improve on this season how well they have done in a few short yyears imo, jabba would have a heart attack if he thought we had to buy six new players without selling half the team first

      (Quote)

  8. Troy – I fundamentally disagree about Ashley. It’s not as much about money for Ashley as his lifestyle. The grief and hassle he will get if we go down will be incredible and he really does not need or want what will come his way. His asset will be toxic and he won’t see any benefit in pouring more money into a club that has no support and no guarantee of getting back in the PL. He will realise that doing it his way is likely to lead to another relegation and that will mean more money to be spent. I just genuinely don’t believe he will have the stomach for the almighty battle he would have on his hands.

      (Quote)

  9. And why do all Refs look like our schoolteachers used to? Man U playing really well. Save some for Hull.

      (Quote)

  10. Stuart

You may be right. But you may be wrong. And if you are wrong then I fear he will protect his asset. I’m not sure he puts much effort into the club. He just appoints Charnley or in the past, Lambias and Mort.

I personally can’t see him giving up and losing face. The parachute payment, far larger than last time we went down, should cover the cost of relegation.

For me, another **** season l, just surviving by the skin of our teeth will have a far bigger impact on the fans despondency than being relegated and then enjoying a promotion season, getting everyone’s hopes up again.

I know some say that promotion is not guaranteed. Of course it’s not, but it’s more likely we would imo.

      (Quote)

  11. On that note. What effort does Ashley actually put into the club? Surely Charnley is running it and reporting black to him. That’s the same with all his businesses.
I think you are underestimating the benefits of NUFC to SD.

      (Quote)

  12. Troy – Nobody does or says anything at NUFC without the ok from Ashley.

Regarding the benefits to SD, well that’s clear but only if NUFC are a PL club. I’m not sure SD will get much benefit from being emblazoned all over a toxic asset where there are boycotts, protests and god knows what else with only the odd game being in TV and highlights shown to 150 people on BBC1 at 11:30pm.

However I just don’t see Ashley really wanting all that hassle. Plus what will be the point in Ashley putting more money in to get us promoted for us to be relegated again as would happen under his running of the club?

      (Quote)

  13. And another thing: why do The Chronicle keep using baseball terms like “home plate” and “curve ball” when most of their readers have never watched a baseball game?

      (Quote)

  14. Troy / Stuart79, the fans and media need to keep up the pressure to ensure that Ashley’s asset remains toxic. The SD name would suffer more in the Championship than in the EPL imo..
I also fear that the media will move on to other stories, leaving the Ashley Out protesters etc to fend for themselves. Local media and the local press will stay well away from criticising Ashley and SD so it really is in the fans own hands…
Anyone renewing there season ticket or putting cash into Ashley’s pocket by attending matches are making a clear statement imo…

      (Quote)

  15. Ashley out is a battle of wills…and attrition.
There are probably tens of thousands of toon fans who for them life is too short and they just need there fix of Geordie tradition of going to the match come hell or high water…
It took you’s both years to come to the conclusion that you will give up your season tickets…. it isn’t an easy decision, and there are plenty more where you come from sitting on the fence in the “just one more season” camp…

      (Quote)

  16. The Chronic use the term “getting to home plate” all of the time. Ryder and Douglas say “United were thrown a curve ball” all the time. I doubt they know what a curve ball is. Some Americanisms have crept into the English vernacular and shouldn’t be there.

      (Quote)

  17. Munich – It’s in the hands of the fans to a large extent. If we stop going and really fire up the pressure on Ashley and SD he won’t be comfortable. Best chance of getting supporters all guns blazing is to have the anger fuelled by relegation.

      (Quote)

  18. Eric, those 2 “Chronny” terms have been in my vocabulary for about 20 years mate… 😉

      (Quote)

  19. MM: I have lived in the US for 25 years so must have missed the start of it. It is just funny to see The Chronicle using language that most of their readers would not understand the derivation of. How many people do you know in Newcastle that watch baseball, let alone would know what throwing a curve ball is? Most people don’t even know what a googly is never mind a curve ball 🙂

      (Quote)

  20. MM: you know I lived in Munich for a while and American sports were much more prevalent there because of the large US army presence. Maybe that is why you use these terms. Baseball never took off in Britain because it is really just rounders 🙂

Bloody hell, now The **** have equalised.

      (Quote)

  21. You have to worry about Man U against Hull because as soon as **** put on any pressure they became a different team. I thought those soft southerners would be affected by the vast temperature difference like our lot were yesterday?

      (Quote)

  22. Ian Wright says of Toon, Scum and Hull, he’d miss Toon the most as we have the best atmosphere for visiting players.

      (Quote)

  23. A lot of you have been asking how I would approach the West Ham match. Well here it is mates: start them off with some high hard cheese. Really brush them back. Then a few low and outside. Then go to the cutter and work our way back inside. Then finish them off with some off speed stuff. Beautiful. Oh….wait. What sport is this again? 😯

      (Quote)

  24. Carver will push too many players up the pitch and we will be caught on the counter. Final score: 0-2. Last game with Johnny C. in charge. Might as well pack up now Carver.

      (Quote)

  25. Quote from Ed Harrison today:

“When all is said and done about John Carver – more is said than done.”

I am liking this new Ed.

  26. G2 Food poisoning West ham’s players would be my best bet but knowing Carver and our players we will still lose.

      (Quote)

  27. Absolutely great line from Ed. I might use it myself later this week and give no credit at all to Ed 🙂

      (Quote)

  28. We’re so lightweight up front. Having Cabella dancing around doing stepovers is pointless. And I couldn’t believe Cisse’s passing when he came on. Several balls were skied to the sidelines? Raylor is hopeless now after all the injuries. The defense on this team have needed replacing for 4 or 5 years now. Willo, Colo, and Saylor as the core? What a joke. Only a fool like Ashley and his pack of clowns would have left it that way.

      (Quote)

  29. I have cooked up Mike Ashley and put him in a pie. If that doesn’t poison the West ham players and give us a victory, nothing else will.

      (Quote)

  30. That defense will get us in trouble in the Championship if we end up there. The replacement process should have started 4 years ago with Willo out. Then get rid of Steve Man of Glass Taylor. Then move Colo on. By now we should have a youngish group of CB’s but with several years of experience. Our fullbacks can be decent but what team lets the CB core collapse? Only morons like Ashley and Charnley, that’s who.

      (Quote)

  31. So we’ll get relegated just because we cannot just start our best midfield partership in Abeid and Colback? Man I really do miss Cheik Tioté. Those 3 are our best midfielders and Sissoko is an overrated Luxury player. A fat and lazy Ben Arfa would brought more than him Cabella Riviere combined.
    For Hammers:

    —————Krul————-
    -Janmaat-Willo-Colo-Dummett-
    ————–Abeid————
    ——de Jong—–Colback——
    –Ayoze—————-Sammy-
    ————–Cissé————-

Subs:gk, Anita, Kemen, Sissoko, Aarons, Cabella, Arma

If de Jong aint fit, lets start Kemen and tell him to put a shift and go to the challenge like Tiote did.

      (Quote)

  32. Geordie2- If we get relegated, lets play Lascelles Dummett CB, bring Good Streete Sterry and Saylor. Bring back James Tavernier to replace Janmaat, lets try hard to keep Ayoze, de Jong and Colback, others can go. We also have to bring back Vuckic PL or not, and build with Darlow Aarons Armstrong Kemen, Smith and Id like to se us sign Ben Pringle and Leon Best. All we’ll need is a new owner and a good manager.

      (Quote)

  33. Eric Sykes@175, I’ve lived twice in the US mate…. Of all the US sports, Baseball always was my sport
Plus we have a mens Bundelsiga baseball team playing in our neighbouring village here in Minga 🙂

A curve ball belongs to baseball, a googly is cricket. Come on, get your sports right 🙂

      (Quote)

  34. **** this experience ***** that Carver keeps going on about. Have they not had enough chances to change it? Get Abeid, Aarons, Ameobi and Armstrong in the team. Energy will be he order of the day.

      (Quote)

  35. Stuart79 @171, you could be right there regarding relegation. Maybe a combination of a full out attack on SD combined with fans boycotting the games may make Ashley think about selling up and moving on. Though there will probably be so many clauses and riders attached to the sale that he wouldn’t find anyone to take us off his hands…
A bit like him retaining the copyright rights to the Rangers logo….

      (Quote)

  36. This may sound wrong, but the worst thing to happen should we get relegated, would be immediate promotion back again.
IMHO if we go down, we have to stay down. It’s the only way fatty will go.
He won’t go straight away, as he will gamble on the quick return. But when that doesn’t happen, the club will rapidly lose it’s worth to him.
Anyhow, with the squad of players we have currently, we would do lucky to finish mid table in the championship.
    🙁

      (Quote)

  37. If we could just have Charnley and Carver on the pitch at half time and hand out some fong bats. Then a raffle to see who gets to do the fonging. At least that would provide some entertainment. Would you like to join in as well Ashley?

      (Quote)

  38. Stuart79@196, the majority of teams look at the toon and think…naah, nothing there to frighten us. Rest assured West Ham will roll up at the weekend like a midtable juggernaut packed out with seasoned pros and swat the toon midgeys all afternoon… Even with Remy and Cisse both in the same toon side we were lightweight up front and relied on the brilliance of some outrageous Cisse finishes…

      (Quote)

  39. Or how about a pillory outside the ground for Charnley and Carver after the match? Everyone gets free fruit and vegetables to throw. Lovely. I would choose pineapples.

I think Psychs was referring to cricket when mentioning googly. Meaning we don’t even know cricket terms never mind baseball terms. Only guessing but that’s what I thought.
Cheeses. I’m gannin soft, defending Psychs!!! 😯

  41. MM@195 come on man at the end of the day its bloody rounders, only thing I liked about was watching the girls playing it in their short skirts 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  42. We should also try hard to keep Abeid. I see him as complete midfielder who could even play Right Midfielder like Barton was. Better player than Sissoko.

      (Quote)

  43. Troy@202, we know you are also one from the googly era mate 🙂 Eric mentioned you several times today in despatches, you shouldn’t leave him out on a limb like that.

      (Quote)

  44. Anyhow what do we have to look forwards to if we do survive ?
There is no way Fatty is going to spend the amount of money needed to make us competitive again.
On top of that, we need a new manager or head coach and director of football who knows what they are doing.
Plus we need a total and utter clearout of ALL the coaches.
stuff the money, the whole sorry lot need to go.
And while we are at it, that little fat gimp Charnley needs to get the bullet too. Even though it would most likely see the return of Llambastad. 👿
What a complete mess this club has become.

      (Quote)

  45. Icedog@203…rounders…happy days mate… 🙂 Still remember smacking my first right hander over Scotty Road……. though net ball was more popular in later years mate 😆

That’s my point about relegation. There’s a bigger chance of immediate promotion imo than staying down. Therefore any despondency and momentum amongst the fans boycotting would be lost with a promotion run in.
I really can’t see Ashley walking away if we got relegated. It’d not like he spends all his time running the business.
That’s what he has Charnley for.

      (Quote)

  47. In all honesty, how far removed are we from behaving like an “established EPL club” ? Clubs recently promoted, who now fit into that category after a few turbulent years building and stabilising…. for example… Swansea… Stoke, ..West Ham, Southampton… ? We are light years away from these teams now, despite the 50K crowds… Too much chopping and changing on the field, but imo the biggest issue holding the club back is the massive disconnect between the fans and the owner, and all that the owner stands for. A ship without a rudder, manned by out of there depth incompetents…

      (Quote)

  48. Troy@209, Eric went all PMOTB on me…. the pressure is getting to him I’m afraid. … this relegation stuff aint for the faint hearted 🙄 🙄

  50. Tory Boy – do you honestly think the players we have are good enough for championship football.
ffs can you even imagine the puny cabella surviving one match. He’ll be smashed to pieces. They’re all a bunch of softies and will want away asap.
I just don’t see where the promotion is going to come from

      (Quote)

  51. Troy, I don’t necessarily agree that we would have a chance of immediate promotion… I think the club is terminally ill, the lightweights left at the club wouldn’t have the all round “Pondus” to get us promoted at the first attempt… 🙁

      (Quote)

  52. so if Arsenal win their midweek match, then manure have nothing to play for on sunday ffs
and if the mackems get a draw, they are safe.
    Looks like we’re doomed.
The writing has been on the wall for months and months.
Quite simply, the club is not worthy of Premier League status.
    Shambles

      (Quote)

  53. MM: you did not answer me about PMOTB. I assumed it meant “Potty Mouth of the Blog”, but you never got back to me. Am I supposed to understand your acronyms???? Now I do understand some of The Toystas – YCMIU and FRSOTB – but that is only because he repeats himself so often.
