In a season where looking on the ‘bright side of things’ has become more or less a full-time occupation, Newcastle fans may have been ever so slightly uplifted when browsing Sky Sports online today.
The sports news site took a look at how the Premier League table would finish should the results of all the remaining matches repeat themselves this season.
aka, if all teams repeated the results from earlier on in the season against their last ten opponents, where would they end up?
Whilst an oversized pinch of salt will be needed when digesting this piece of information, it is interesting to note that Sky Sports have us down to avoid relegation even though our next two games come against Leicester City and Sunderland, two teams we both lost 3-0 to earlier in the season.
Whilst we are also due to play Spurs in our final 10 game run-in (last game of the season) it goes without saying that the chances of repeating our shock 2-1 win at White Hart Lane from back in December is highly, highly unlikely.
If Rafa accepts the gig then something has finally changed at boardroom level.
Lets just hope it’s not all too little too late.
Expect to also hear Carr has resigned as ‘DoF’ with immediate effect.

Gash…The radio station has a good rep, I’d guess they have been told by someone close to him, they don’t deal in rumours!…usually!! 😐

@Richie
I hope its true but as they say, until hes standing on the touchline with a wonga jacket on….
I’m still hopeful for Clarky being bought out of his contract at Killy 😛

Rafa rumours are really starting to sound like they might have something in them……
80m spent on players and a CL winning manager appointed in one season?!!
God I hope this is the end of their blueprint on how to run a football club…..
Off to the kitchen to grab me a pinch of salt…….

Refuse to believe a word until I see him unveiled in front of SJP or in a presser.

C’mon now Kim, we all know you’re staring at those headlines like Charlie gazing at a golden ticket 😯

No, dental check and a mucky eye

If this was any other club with these sorts of reports about Rafa it would be almost as nailed on as you could get. But unfortunately we all know we are more than capable of cocking this right up!
Although I have gone up to a 1% chance of it happening now.
Stuart79(Quote)
Fingers crossed for some good news by the time ya get back then!
YouYew(Quote)
An entire percent Stu?
Typical deluded Geordie 😆
YouYew(Quote)
My only worry is it would only really be good news if he keeps us up. If not he’ll surely walk and that may be the one chance we had of changing the culture of the club for the better gone.
YouYew(Quote)
In that instance, YouYew, I suppose we would just have to hope the board learnt that a top quality manager is what we need.
All this talk of Rafa deal edging closer and talks going well ect but I would be surprised if the PL rules allowed the club to enter into formal negotiations with another manager before the current one is sacked? Imagine getting so far down the line with Rafa that you feel you can sack Steve and then Rafa changes his mind… So very NUFC. 😳

No bleeding wonder we are run so shockingly! When you pay the MD this miserly amount you ain’t going to get anybidy with any competence are you.

Stu:
Wonder whether the title of Manager and Head Coach technically make it a different position and therefore not something they can intervene in?
YouYew(Quote)
Suppose they could arguably keep him on as a ‘coach’ and further up the pecking order than Simpson making him a ‘Head Coach’?
Anyway, however they go about doing it, just get it done.
Poor Steve deserves whatever compensation packet he’s due though, just for the way he’s been dragged through this so publicly.

Three year deal for Rafa at Newcastle according to @diarioas. Not the first time he thought about the club. The long term project he wanted

Efforts to bring in Benitez intensified last 24 hours. He’s keen. Talks taking place with Spaniard. Leicester game might come too soon.
Although this would be a disaster if McClaren was still in charge by then.
Stuart79(Quote)
Can’t see SM being in charge either way.
Don’t even believe he’d need to stick around for his pay packet anymore, he’s surely got a stonewall case for constructive dismissal and making his position untenable?
If I were him I’d not be in that dugout.
YouYew(Quote)
Unless the whole thing is just the club playing silly buggers, and he’s not getting dismissed at all and is in on the whole thing.
Which, the more I think about it………………..

This Benitez talk is just so unlike us . . . or Ashley I mean. He never does the best man for the job routine.
