Rumour: Rafa Benitez expected to take over as Newcastle boss

In a breaking development, Rafa Benitez will be appointed as new manager of Newcastle United on a three year deal according to Sky Sports presenter Jim White.


After the reported sacking of now ex-Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren earlier today, rumours have been circulating that Spanish manager Rafael Benitez who has twice managed in the Premier League already with Liverpool and Chelsea will be taking over the hot seat at St James’ Park for the remainder of the season.

With the club currently occupying 19th spot inside the Premier League relegation zone, it was clear that Newcastle needed to act quickly and decisively should they wish to remain in the English top flight for at least another season. With a La Liga title with Valencia, Champions League title with Liverpool and a Europa League title with Chelsea to boot, the rumour suggests Newcastle clearly believe they’ve found the man who can lead the club to safety.

  1. The manager situation is very much dependant on the recent train trip to York.
    If they went on the fantasy train they will come back with Rafa.
    If they went on the reality train they will come back with Moyes , unless Troy was driving when they would come back with Lee Clarke 😀
    If they missed the train we will be stuck with McClaren.

  19. Just think about it Stu after Sats game the Clown was one of the most hated men in the Toon and would have been given dogs abuse by the Fans.
    But now a lot of Fans feel sorry for him after the way he has been “treated”.
    Jabba was the other most hated man in the Toon, but now that he is ” trying ” to get us Rafa a lot of fans have started to think that he has changed his M O and has now ambition for the club .

    He also says McClaren was expected to be sacked today and they won’t sack him until they are 110% sure Rafa is a done deal.

  70. Patience people, Rafa will be in place very soon.

    There are big changes to be made getting him in. Going from head coach to manager, his own backroom staff, his wages, transfer budgets – certainly his bonus if he keeps us up – maybe a buyout clause in his contract should we go down and another club want him.
