Rafael Benitez takes his Newcastle side to St Mary’s in search of a much needed win. The Struggling North East side haven’t recorded a win since beating West Brom back in February.

Benitez is expected to recall Aleksandar Mitrovic to his starting line-up after the striker scored twice last weekend.

Jack Colback is out through suspension, while left-backs Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara are still injured. Newcastle are also without a win in their last 8 away games -The worst record since 1977.

    I can’t figure out what’s his best position. Seems like a David batty, role. Sit deep with tidy passes without the challenges or the decent passing

  39. Just want Norwich to score tbh, if they go 9 clear then it’s all over if it wasn’t already. At least then the club can start preparing for the championship in good time. The last 2 or 3 seasons have been soul destroying to watch and i’m fed up of getting ribbed for following the Toon . If the fizzypop returns means i get to see the team win a few more games then i’ll take it.

  45. Well that was as bad as i thought it was gonna be, one shot from us in 45 minutes, pathetic and not up to PL standard. We do not deserve to be in this league end of. Saddens me that this once proud club cannot compete with the likes of norwich, C.palace, bornemouth, Leicester, watford and the Baggies. How far we have fallen under the stewardship of Mr Ashley, he needs to clear out and hand us over to an owner who can revitalize us completely.

    Mate I been saying this for yonks mate, i prayed Rafa could work his magic but in my heart i knew he wouldn’t. I read that Steve McClaren tried to get the squad to go for a bonding walk while they were in Spain, they wouldn’t even get off the coach at first. when they eventually did one actually said, what’s the point no one cares anyway. And that in a nutshell is where we’re at with this lot sadly.

    The sight of De Jong warming up on the touchline would scare …. no-one…

    Mitrovic provideds nothing, either in attack or defensively…

    Not convinced of Lascalles OR Mbemba if the truth be known.

  69. MM, I am really shocked at the lack of improvement defensively under Rafa tbh. That’s his trademark isn’t it to get things tight? just once in his first game i saw a little improvement.

  73. What the majority of our players lack, NO manager can improve this.
    The players are just not good enough. Shocking decision making coupled with a lack of technique and application. Too many players physically not fit for the Premier League, the game passes them by. They can show glimpses of skill, but all in all not good enough..

    The problem is we are saddled with them now, and a few of them, Anita, Wijnaldum, De Jong earning probably MASSIVE salaries. What an absolute shambles, a whole series of shocking recruitment decisions have been made by the “footballing board”..
    Riviere, Doumbia, Gouffron all dissapeared off the face of the planet … thank goodness..
