Former Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor is on the verge of joining Portland Timbers, according to reports from MLSGB.
After spending over two decades at Newcastle United, Steven Taylor left St. James’ Park at the end of last season as his contract with the club was not renewed by manager Rafael Benitez.
Taylor had struggled for regular first team football at Newcastle over the past few years and despite his lifelong association with the Magpies, it was probably the correct decision to release the 30-year-old this summer.
Taylor is currently on the lookout for a new club and Scottish Premier League outfit Rangers had been linked with a move for the former England international a few weeks ago.
Recently, reports had claimed that even Portland Timbers had joined in the race to sign Taylor and now according to MLSGB, it has been revealed that the defender is now on the verge of joining the MLS Cup champions.
