Match preview Bristol City v Newcastle United

Newcastle take the long trip down south to my hometown city this weekend when they take on Lee Johnson’s Bristol City.
I can’t promise you sunny southern weather since the sun has decided to take it’s own holiday for a while.

Instead Newcastle will be greeted by gale force winds and rain if our local weather men are right. However Toon fans will get to see the newly revamped Ashton Gate stadium which looks very good. I have passed it by on a weekly basis and watched it slowly take shape and it wouldn’t look out of place in the Premier league now and that after all is where Bristol City want to be.

City manager Lee Johnson has brought in a number of new players this summer and one in particular takes the eye and that’s the loan signing of Tammy Abraham from Chelsea. The lad looks a belter and has already got himself on the score sheet 4 times in their first three matches. I have a sneaky feeling he may prove a handful on saturday so our defence will need to cut out the lack of concentration that has proved our downfall oh so often.

Another player to look out for is Aden Flint, a centre back that Sunderland wanted last season and we were recently linked with. I know that City fans were desperate to see him stay with them as he is an integeral part of the teams spine and were doubtless breathing a collective sigh of relief when we went shopping at Blackburn instead.

Lee Johnson says he’s excited at the prospect of pitting his wits up against Rafa Benitez and Ashton Gate will have it’s biggest gate for 25 years helped by the newly built stand which has increased the capacity. Some 21,000 are expected on the day with 2,500 from Newcastle.

Referee for the day will be Tony Harrington from Cleveland. He likes a yellow card does Tony, so far dishing out 17 since the season kicked off. Maybe this isn’t the game to push boundries then.

Newcastle will be without Sissoko again due to a knock, but Diame is back in contention, Mitrovic serves the last of his 4 game ban.

Bristol City are without defender Derrick Williams (shoulder injury) and both goalkeeper Frank Fielding and midfielder Korey Smith are out with ankle injuries.

Let’s hope Newcastle can pick up some more points and build some momentum.

  1. Apparently Toon looking to loan Krul to Ajax but will also offer him a 1 year extension. I don’t really get that. That’s all about trying to get a sell on fee for him later down the line. He’s better off turning us down if that’s the case?

  7. It’s probably to do with money Ice. Most things are. Or Maybe they were concerned Rafa wouldn’t give him enough game time.

Not fussed tbh Ice, we just move on to the next target. Don’t really like loaning players to develop for PL teams.

Yep, I said on Saturday that there was trouble up the road. Idiots, thankfully most City fans are a good laugh and enjoy banter, but we do have sadly a nasty group like many clubs do . There was an incident in the ground too, my mate said there were some Newcastle fans sitting in a VIP section and after they jumped up to celebrate the goal they got attacked by a few fans, stewards broke it up . They were in the home section but still should of been safe, one day we’ll stamp this idiocy out for good.

  12. What I was getting at is that Kimtoon and Shamrock are better writers than Ryder and don’t get paid to do it. Same with the other guys on here and NUFC.com and even Ed. All doing it for the love of the club and doing a hell of a lot better job than the so called professional journalist who gets all of the perqs.

This was exactly what I was saying yesterday, he wants to leave them in sound financial health and doesn’t want to be seen as wasting cash and spending for the sake of it like so many PL teams at the moment.

Will get some good threads going this week.

Lets hope they do well and stay there then Sham. Mind you saviet never really got a fair crack at the whip really. Got to wonder what Carrs been drinking over the years ,there been a few duffers come in , the 2014 transfer window in particular is the one that did the damage isn’t it?

  20. I’m looking forward to seeing who starts against Cheltenham. I would put Mitro straight in there. Perez as well. Midfield could include Tiote if he’s fit and Colback, Try Hanley at the back with Clark. Surely Gamez is fit and can play by now? Anita is another option at fullback. It’s nice to have some choices at various positions for a change.

I prefer Pep’s Citeh mate, but you can’t always get what you want ?

sick to death of the rumours and BS from the likes of lee ryder, George caulkin and so many others who clearly know **** all, yet get paid to regurgitate other peoples ****.
I’m glad to see the back of the de jong family. Those ******* have creamed a fortune out of us, with nowt in return.
As it stands I am quite happy to see Sissyoko (deluded *****) rot in the reserves til xmas, but I NEVER want to see him playing for us ever again. Hopefully though he goes for the silly money we need to make the squad stronger, particularly on the left.
Unfortunately the club is still rotten at the top end, so will probably still end up shooting itself in the foot yet again.
As for the cup match v cheltenham town, what’s the point ?
a run out for mitro and a few unwanted. Yeah I’m gonna pay £15 to see that. NOT
Now Brighton will be a real test, or most likely another lesson how to lose badly in the championship.
Hooters with a point to prove, and why not indeed.
still think we will struggle to make the play-offs with the current squad.

  37. I think the Cheltenham game should be used to have a look at fringe players – the likes of Armstrong, Mbabu (if fit) and Sterry. They won’t be first choice in the Championship, but are they solid enough to be back ups if called upon.

I interested to see what he’ll do now Mitrovic is back as well.
Gayle is in form so does he stick with him? – if so does he go 2 up top and play Mitrovic as well or does Mitrovic take a place on the bench as he did last season & come on as a sub?.

      (Quote)

  38. Stuart – he’ll start Mitro. He needs game time. I think he’ll rest Hayden, CBs, Ritchie and possibly Gayle. Wouldn’t mind him giving a very long rest to Sels too.

I see we’re now being linked to McCarthy at Everton. Good player. Could be a part of the Sissoko fiasco.

  40. Agree Stuart – I’m not that impressed by him either. We definitely need someone attacking down the left and for me that would be it til January.

The balance was just about right just before the season ended and now it seems to have gone wrong again. All aimed at hits on news now and no original content being produced that is comment enabled? Please do match related articles. That’s what a footy team is all about at the end of the day, football games!

In other news, Mr Douglas looks pretty certain we are in for Alan Judge, a CM who can play wide left who has a good record at this level but bizarrely is out with a broken leg until November?! Dodgy signing or what.

Ice – he was on fire last season with Brentford – Ritchie one side & a fit Judge on the other would be an exciting prospect.
But it was a bad break from what I read – both the tibia & fibula, so that’s not an easy one to come back from.

Rafa is clearing to deadwood out at the moment, so you would hope he’s not going to get rid of De Jong to bring in another sicknote like.

  44. ime not keen on James McCarthy coming as some rags are saying hes a very dirty player and often in bother,i still think there is a ray of hope on Dost but Rafa wont hang around long waiting, this Judge lad has played a lot on l/w maybe thats where Rafa sees him??

  46. Janmaat can go but we don’t need a RB. We have Anita, Gamez, Sterry and Mbabu there. If anything, we need a LB. Trouble is with Judge, we would still have no left winger for half the season and even then it’s a complete guess whether he will ever return to his best after a break like that. I think it’s a weird move.

Georgio – I think Mitrovic has an important season coming up mate. Not so much for goals (although he’s going to have to improve on that) but in tidying up his game.
I don’t see Rafa suffering his yellow & red cards so lightly. He likes a smallish squad where he can get continuity and he won’t get that if Mitrovic keeps getting suspended.

Sham – If Judge is a player Rafa fancies then maybe he wants him now so he can oversee his rehab. I’m sure as a sportsman Judge would have had the best treatment for the break itself – how he comes back will depend on the rehab of building his leg muscles back up – that’s arguably the most important part.

I’m sure he’d prefer Knockeart, but if he can’t get Brighton to sell, then maybe Judge in Nov is his next best option. He may be happy to go with Aarons and/or Gouffran – or even move Gayle into that left channel until he can nurse Judge back to full fitness.
