Stan Collymore names three audacious transfer targets for NUFC this summer

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes Rafa Benitez should make an audacious attempt to sign Cesc Fabregas, John Terry and Jermaine Defoe this summer in his latest piece in the Mirror.

Collymore suggests Benitez will be eager to bring the glory days back to Tyneside, but admits to get there, Ashley must trust his man  and let him use his contacts and profile in the game to sign the experienced trio – who he believes would all do a sensational job at St. James’.

Whilst I expect Benitez to ask Ashley for experienced signings this summer, the NUFC owner would require a huge change of approach to sign the likes of Fabregas, Terry and Defoe.

There’s no doubting the quality and experience they’d add to this young Newcastle United side, but i’d be surprised to see any of them arrive this summer.

Fabregas, 30, will still demand a considerable fee and have plenty interested suitors, with the midfield maestro proving he is still more than capable of cutting it at Premier League level. John Terry is a free agent and would add valuable Premier League know how to the squad – but will Rafa turn to a player who turns 37 this year?

The Defoe link could have legs, however it remains to be seen if the 34 year-old would swap Wearside for Tyneside.
