PRE-SEASON: NUFC reveal opponents for 5th summer friendly – another European trip awaits

Newcastle United have today announced their 5th pre-season friendly of the summer, confirming another trip to Germany to face Bundesliga side Mainz on Saturday 29th July.

This is not the only German side Benitez’s men will face up against this summer, with Newcastle confirming yesterday that they will also play Wolfsburg the following week (August 2nd).

The friendly away to Mainz will kick off at 4pm (German time) and will take place at their 34,000 capacity Opel Arena.

Here’s NUFC’s full pre-season schedule as it stands:

  • Hearts (A) – 14th July – 7.45pm
  • Preston North End (A) – 22nd July – 3pm
  • Bradford City (A) 26th July –  7.30pm
  • Mainz (A) 29th July – 4pm
  • Wolfsburg (A) 2nd August – 4pm

Our opponents for the annual pre-season game at St. James’ park in August is yet to be confirmed, however rumours have suggested it could be against Serie A side Hellas Verona, managed by Benitez’s former NUFC assistant Fabio Pecchia.
