Newcastle may appear to be closing in on a deal for Florian Lejeune, but it has emerged that reported NUFC targets Vincent Aboubakar, Maxime Gonalons and Henry Onyekuru won’t be joining Rafa Benitez on Tyneside this summer.
Starting with Aboubakar, widespread reports suggested last week that Benitez had turned to the £9m rated Porto striker after missing out on Tammy Abraham, however The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas has yesterday played down any interest in the Cameroonian:
No, don't think there's anything in that at all

Then to Gonalons. The Lyon captain has just one year left on his current contract and, with Benitez in the market for a defensive midfielder, Newcastle were linked with a move for the Frenchman.
The 28-year-old is available for just €5m this summer, but has agreed a Roma and is expected to complete his medical next week.

And finally, Henry Onyekuru. The highly-rated 20-year-old was believed to have attracted our interest this summer after an impressive 24 goals in Belgium last season, however it was announced yesterday that Everton had won the race to his signature.
Due to work permit issues, he has been loaned to Anderlecht for the upcoming season (which may explain to some extent why NUFC looked elsewhere), but he looks a real talent and potential bargain at £7m.
