According to The Chronicle, there has been some ‘positive noises’ behind the scenes at Newcastle United, suggesting Rafa Benitez may just secure summer signing number three before we jet out for our pre-season training camp in Ireland next week.
The likes of Plea, Rondon, Kenedy and Townsend are all names that have been strongly linked over the past few days, however the Ki Sung-Yueng signing was proof of how some deals can be kept under wraps and announced out of the blue.
Here’s their latest update on the transfer front at NUFC, insisting that nothing is imminent, but hinting that signing number three *might* arrive in the coming days if all goes to plan:
‘It does not appear at this stage that any deal is imminent – but there have been some positive noises behind the scenes suggesting Benitez could have another player through the door before Newcastle fly to the Republic of Ireland next week, though that is far from certain.
‘The Ki deal was kept quiet until the last minute, so fingers crossed United have done likewise with another signing.’
It’d be nice if a big deal for a new striker or the return of Kenedy was confirmed – giving us and Benitez a big boost ahead of pre-season – however it wouldn’t surprise me if another name out of the blue ends up signing.
Fingers crossed anyway. With five weeks remaining and around five signings needed (striker, winger, number 10, centre-back cover, full-back cover), it would be great to see us get most of our business done early.
