According to Sky Sports, Rafa Benitez looks set to join Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang after being offered a contract worth a staggering £25m a year.
In a lunch time update on their live blog, Sky Sports also claim that Chinese duo Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou Evergrande are also keen, but they ‘understand’ that Rafa looks set to accept Dalian Yifang’s offer:
This news comes from Sky (see it here) just over an hour after Newcastle United released an official statement confirming that the Spaniard would leave the club when his contract expires on Sunday June 30th.
I still have my doubts, but Sky are insisting he’s likely to join Dalian Yifang – with this lucrative contract giving him over FOUR times the £6m salary he was allegedly offered by Mike Ashley.
In all honesty, I would be pretty shocked if Rafa left for China – even if Sky are making a strong case that he’s going.
It’s a move that only appeals from a financial perspective (he won’t be close to his family and it’s not a competitive league at all), but could you really blame if if he’s been offered a whopping £25m per year?
