Some more positive reports on a potential move for Valentino Lazaro today, with the Daily Mail now claiming we’re ‘confident’ of signing the Inter Milan wing-back – and could seal the deal ‘over the next 24 hours’.
RB Leipzig were said to be his preferred destination and looked likely to sign him yesterday, but the noises now suggest we’re leading the race – with reports in Italy this morning also stating we’re in ‘pole position’.
Simon Jones’ latest piece on our pursuit of the 23-year-old Austrian claims that we held ‘further talks’ with his representatives on Thursday and are now hopeful of sealing a deal.
The Mail claim RB Leipzig and Bologna have also held discussions with the player, but claim we’re confident of beating both to his signature.
Here’s a snippet from Simon Jones’ piece this afternoon:
Newcastle confident of completing loan move for Inter Milan midfielder Valentino Lazaro in next 24 hours
‘Newcastle United are hopeful of concluding a loan for Inter Milan’s Valentino Lazaro after further talks on Thursday.
‘The 23 year old Austrian midfielder has also held talks with RB Leipzig and Bologna.
‘A deal could be concluded over the next 24 hours.‘
This certainly seems to back up the latest reporter from Italy – which saw Serie A journalist Alfredo Pedulla state we’d made an improved offer to the player – but it’s hard to know what’s really going on here given all the claims and counter claims we’ve read on Lazaro over the past 24 hours.
He would be an exciting addition and give us the arrival of a versatile talent who can play anywhere down either flank, however we thought he was set to sign last weekend when his agent was spotted at St James’ Park – yet here we are several days later still wondering.
Who knows what will happen – especially with us up against the current Bundesliga leaders – but it seems yesterday’s reports suggesting he was off to Leipzig may have been premature.
