It would be easy to forget Dan Barlaser is still a Newcastle United player following several low-key loan moves away from St James’ Park.
The local lad looked set to be released just two seasons ago after he was sent back to Tyneside early by Crewe Alexandra following a disappointing loan spell, but a few year’s on he’s forced his way back into NUFC’s thinking.
He completed a season-long loan move to Rotherham last summer and has been a big part of their promotion push in League One this season.
Not only have the Chronicle revealed that loan manager Shola Ameobi has filed “unbelievable” reports on his spell in Yorkshire, the stats below show what an outstanding season he’s having in the third tier:
So, not only is he the third best passer in League One so far, no player in the third tier has created more chances or made more interceptions per game – while his overall rating (via WhoScored.com) per game is also an impressive one at 7.39.
Time isn’t on his side anymore, with him now 23 and no longer considered a ‘youngster’, but the Chronicle claim Steve Bruce could now take a good luck at him over pre-season this summer following his stunning spell with Rotherham.
Sean Longstaff returned from a brilliant stint at Blackpool a few years ago and broke into Benitez’s first-team squad after an impressive pre-season.
Can Dan Barlaser do the same in a few months time? It looks like he’s earned himself a shot at the very least..
