“He looked a top player” – Bruce drools over NUFC star after 3-2 win at West Brom

Steve Bruce has hailed Miguel Almiron following our FA Cup win over West Brom last night, believing the Paraguayan looked a ‘top, top player’ at the Hawthorns.

Played in the no.10 once again (his favoured position), the Paraguayan was a constant thorn in the Baggies’ side, scoring twice, playing a part in our third and showing brilliant energy and enthusiasm throughout.

Here’s what Steve Bruce has had to say about the former Atlanta star, believing his latest strikes could do his confidence the world of good:

“He looked a top, top player tonight and we all know he can score. He just missed a few chances and then it ebbs away at you.

“One thing you can’t deny is the kid is a good player.”

“As I have said many times he has been a breath of fresh air.

“That little bit of confidence will hopefully do him the world of good.”

Almiron has never been guilty of a lack of effort at Newcastle United, but his finishing and final product has often been in question – yet that could not be said last night, with him taking both goals emphatically.

A few months ago he’d failed to score and looked a shadow of the player that made an immediate impression under Rafa Benitez, yet today he’s our top scorer on 6 goals.

He’s always been persistent, but it’s amazing what a few goals and a resultant confidence boost can do for an attacking player!

Let’s hope Joelinton is the next one to come good in front of goal – starting at Southampton this Saturday.
