‘Big signings, SJP revamp, training ground or academy?’ – Poll results reveal NUFC fans top priority

We recently conducted a series of online polls which over 1,000 Toon fans took part in, asking a series of hypothetical questions on what they would do if the Saudi-backed takeover was completed.

The third question in our poll (see questions 1 and 2 here) looked at what fans would like the would-be owners to prioritise should a £300m deal be announced.

Fans will be expecting every option on the list to become a reality, but this poll is looking at what the most important factor would be on day one of the new consortium’s reign.

3. If the Saudi takeover happens, what would your first priority be?

Big money signings narrowly defeated training facilities 43% to 41%, with investment in these two areas having the biggest short-term impact on the club.

The lack of silverware for over half a century could be why the fanbase feels this way, with all of us desperate to see the club have some success on the pitch. The quicker, the better…

Upgrading the stadium and investing in the academy would not be immediate priorities, but they are obviously two important wishes that Toon fans would be hopeful for to help us achieve success in the long run.

  1. They can do all infrastructure on day one as it’s not covered by FFP rules and a stadium expansion would increase revenues.
We keep hearing how a grade 2 listed leazes terrace stops the east stand from being extended.
Simple solution is to move leazes terrace into leases park, problem solved they move bigger buildings in the USA often so why not that one to a more fitting setting.
They moved Abu Simbel in Egypt, and that was a mountain and a world heritage site. So a row of houses should not be a problem
