Saudis send “incredibly lucrative offer” to top Director of Football in event of £300m takeover – Report

French media outlet L’Equipe are reporting that Lille Director of Football Luís Campos has rejected an “incredibly lucrative offer” to join Newcastle in the event of a Saudi-backed takeover.

The 55-year-old is highly rated on the continent and has previously worked with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid as a scout, but he is best known for his spell at Monaco between 2013-16 when they became one of the most attractive sides in Europe.

The likes of Bernado Silva, Kyllian Mbappe, James Rodriguez and Fabinho excelled under his watch at Monaco, which has earned him his reputation as an excellent talent spotter.

Now at Lille, L’Equipe claim he has just turned down a huge offer to join Newcastle as part of our Saudi revolution.

Whether this is genuine or not remains to be seen – it could just be L’Equipe putting two and two together, especially when they’ve been known to make big claims and be way off the mark in the past.

Any news linking us with anyone should be taken with a pinch of salt until this takeover is completed.

Coutinho, Zaha, Bale etc. are all just a fantasy in our imagination until that yellow ticker appears on Sky Sports confirming we have new owners and no more Mike Ashley!
