Bruce’s contradictions & the exhausting wait for answers – Is it ever a quiet day at NUFC?

First and foremost, how many times are The Chronicle going to start articles with “Amanda Staveley, the Reuben brothers and the Saudi Public Investment Fund are waiting for approval from the Premier League?”

Sadly, we know this all too well, as all of us long-suffering fans are too. In fact, we’ve been waiting 13 years, never mind three months!

Yesterday was a much, much quieter day from The Toon. Not that there was nothing coming out and going on mind. After all our current boss had his pre-match presser over a webcam on ‘Zoom’ ahead of Sunday’s clash with Sheffield Utd.

Now, this is only my opinion, but did anyone else find some of his comments very contradictory? On the one hand Mr Bruce informs us that no-one has talked to him about the takeover and he’s aware something is “rumbling” but doesn’t know what.

The lack of communication isn’t helping, but, if Mike Ashley really is about to sell up, he’d be in a position to say anything about Bruce’s future as it wouldn’t be up to him to mention, speculate or even decide! As for the PROSPECTIVE incoming owners? Well, they are hardly going to reveal any plans until they are certain of what’s going to happen or indeed IF it does.

All a bit of a mystery still then. But here’s where the contradiction comes in, I think. Mr Bruce then goes on to say that plans for incoming and outgoing transfers were well advanced, but have now been put on hold. Now I don’t disagree with these thoughts and that’s exactly what they might just be, his thoughts.

Or actually they must be his thoughts given that he’s not being told anything by either party? So, if he’s right then ALL and EVERY ONE of the transfer stories must be mere speculative journalism and in some respects that’s not a surprise.

So, what is absolutely certain? For me, right now, there’s two things. The first is that eventually there will be a decision one way or another on the takeover and then that will lead to the second, which will be CONFIRMED comings and goings which will not just involve players, I think!

Until then we can all speculate and in the vast majority of our cases, pray for the right result both on and off the field and one thing that would settle a lot of things down would be three points against Sheffield United tomorrow.

A very wise man once said to me that there’s always a huge amount of coverage about NUFC when they are doing well and EVEN more when they are not. Which leads me to end with yet another question. I wonder what the prospective new owners will think whatever the result is tomorrow?

We’re a blog that clearly collates all the news out there and comments on it – not the ones actually making up the news itself. There’s a BIG difference.

Compared to some we’ve taken a step back from takeover articles of late, but we can’t stop talking about what could be one of the biggest deals in the club’s history, can we?!
