Steve Bruce has already ruled Allan Saint-Maximin out of Wednesday’s trip to Man City, feeling it would be unfair to ask the fatigued Frenchman to ‘go again’ in midweek.
Elsewhere, the gaffer has also confirmed that Isaac Hayden was forced off today with a hamstring injury, saying both he and Sean Longstaff (hamstring) will be missing for “two or three weeks”.
Here’s what the NUFC boss had to say on all the above after today’s 2-2 draw with West Ham:
“Unfortunately I don’t think I could ask Allan to go again on Wednesday, that’s for sure.
“Our two, arguably, fittest players in Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden have both got hamstring injuries.
“They’re not serious but it’s two or three weeks which probably rules them out.”
“We’ll see where we are [for Wednesday]. Five games in 15 days in the Premier League is a tough ask.
We’ll see how they all are in the next 24-48 hours.”
In fairness, it’s about time we gave Saint-Maximin a rest, and Wednesday’s trip to Man City could be the ideal time to do so given it’ll be a game where we spend at least 70% of it chasing the ball!
As for Hayden and S Longstaff, we’ll now be a few short in central midfield over the coming weeks, however Bentaleb’s performance from half-itme onwards was eye-catching today, while Shelvey impressed once again.
They can’t play every few days, mind, so we may well see Matty Longstaff get some rare Premier League minutes this month.
