Salomon Rondon tugs on the heart strings of NUFC fans 2 years on from bittersweet loan move

Former Toon striker Salomon Rondon has sent a bittersweet message to Newcastle fans, looking back on his ‘great memories’ on Tyneside two years on from his loan move from West Brom.

The Venezuelan international was a fan favourite during his sole season for our club, scoring some important goals which helped us comfortably beat the drop under Rafa Benitez.

He forged a formidable partnership with Ayoze Perez and Miguel Almiron and often gained praise for his work-rate, eye for goal and hold-up play – something we desperately missed up top last season.

That said, his £16million release clause was somehow deemed too much by the club’s hierarchy, who didn’t want to pay over the odds for a player turning 30.

We have lived to regret that decision, especially considering we spent almost three times as much as that on goal-shy a Joelinton.

A few years on, Rondon now plys his trade in China for Dalian Yifang alongside former boss Benítez.

Let’s hope we see the big man back in black and white some day soon!
