Sky Sports have this morning confirmed our interest in Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis.
The 22-year-old talent was linked with a move to St James’ Park over the weekend, with the Daily Mail claiming he, Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson were all top targets of Bruce’s, and it’s now Sky’s Kaveh Solhekol who’s reporting our interest.
He claims that ourselves and Leicester City are both in the running, but warns that the Canaries are pushing for closer to £20m after rejecting a £10m bid from Liverpool for the highly-rated left-back last month.
Norwich right-back Max Aarons won most of the plaudits across 2019/20, however Lewis was quietly impressive down the left-hand side and would be a good signing if we could pull it off.
That said, there’s a few reasons why I’m struggling to believe we’ll pull this one off, with a £20m price tag seeming out of our budget when most of that appears to be going on a deal involving Matt Ritchie and cash for Callum Wilson.
Not only that, if Leicester are seriously interested then I struggle to see how we’ll compete, with them a more attractive proposition these days AND being more than able to match Norwich’s asking price after they just pocketed £50m for Chelsea new boy Ben Chilwell.
