To say Tuesday’s behind closed doors friendly with Middlesbrough was a bit of a shocker would be an understatement.
We shipped FIVE against the Championship side, looked all over the shop defensively, had Jamaal Lascelles sent off and conceded a cheap late penalty via a clumsy piece of defending from Javier Manquillo.
It’s only pre-season, but the highlights were hard to watch and the scoreline – aside from one moment of quality from Allan Saint-Maximin.

A friendly to forget for Newcastle United, but good to see our fleet-footed Frenchman get on the scoresheet for the first time in three pre-season appearances.
We can only hope we improve in our final two warm up games of the summer, with us set to take on Stoke at St James’ Park on Saturday and Middlesbrough at Benton on Monday for another behind closed doors match.
