Lee Ryder: NUFC eyeing move for Serie A right-back if buyer arrives for DeAndre Yedlin

According to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Newcastle United are interested in signing Bologna right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Evening Standard credited ourselves and West Ham with an interest in the highly-rated Japanese international yesterday, and Ryder reports that he could be targeted should we find a buyer for DeAndre Yedlin – with NUFC scouts travelling to Italy to watch him in action before lockdown.

The USA international is out of contract next summer and The Chronicle reveal that we’ve been offering him around Europe in a bid to get a fee while we can.

With that in mind, it sounds like we might just make a move for the 21-year-old talent should Yedlin be sold.

That said, Lee Ryder reports that Bologna value the Japanese star at around £15m following an outstanding first season in Serie A.

Given our limited budget and the fact most of that must be spent on a proven striker, a move for him may only be possible if A) we raise funds via a host of fringe men or and B) Bologna reduce their demands.

Our priority appears to be in attack, while the signing of a left-back must also feature high on Bruce’s to-do list, however it seems Tomiyasu is on our shortlist should Yedlin’s exit create room for a new right-back.
