Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has revealed that free agent Ryan Fraser has just arrived on Tyneside ahead of face-to-face talks with Steve Bruce.
The North-East correspondent claims a deal is not done just yet, but crucially states that the former Bournemouth winger is ‘leaning towards’ a move to Newcastle United and is ‘impressed’ by the ‘size and stature’ of the club.
Here’s what Downie’s had to say in the last few moments, confirming the 26-year-old is now in the North-East and closing in on a move to St James’ Park:
“I’m told Ryan Fraser has arrived in Newcastle for face-to-face talks with manager Steve Bruce.
“The Scotland winger hasn’t decided where his future lies but we understand he’s leaning towards it being with Newcastle.
“No deal done yet.
“Remember Arsenal were looking at him not so long ago.
Top assist maker in the Premier League a year ago, this would be a good signing if Newcastle can complete the deal.
“Fraser is impressed by the size & stature of the club.“
Both West Ham and Crystal Palace have been credited with interest and are believed to have also held talks, but it seems the Scot is eager to join Newcastle – something that will move him closer to his family in Aberdeen.
It all sounds promising – and suggests the plane-spotting fans on Twitter have finally got one right – however we’ll have to come to an agreement on wages before he’s able to sign on the dotted line.
As the Shields Gazette’s Liam Kennedy states below, he’s believed to have flown in on Mike Ashley’s private plane, with him also claiming that a provisional medical slot has been booked in – suggesting we’re expecting a deal to be concluded following his trip up to Tyneside!
Fingers crossed on this one, as there’s little doubt that Ryan Fraser will improve us and be a very shrewd signing on a free.
