Journalist says 1 deal now ‘imminent’, 4 signings close & hints even more could follow

The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas has shared a very positive update on the Newcastle United transfer front today.

Douglas believes we are close to FOUR new arrivals worth almost £35m, but also believes there could well be more to come.

He states that Ryan Fraser’s arrival on a free transfer is ‘to be announced imminently’ – so that one appears all but done – and states that deals for Callum Wilson (£20m) and Jamal Lewis (£13.5m) look set to go through after fees were agreed.

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has confirmed that Wilson will arrive on Tyneside later today, with a medical scheduled tomorrow once personal terms are sorted, and Douglas feels he is the big breakthrough for Steve Bruce – believing the players eagerness to sign for NUFC is so important.

Elsewhere, he states that a loan deal for Rob Holding is also in the pipeline and ‘bubbling away’, despite talk on that front going quiet, and even claims that he’s hearing ‘more could be on the way’ IF we manage to get a few fringe players off the wage bill.

Here’s his big update on all things NUFC via his Facebook page:

So a £20m deal agreed for Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser to be announced imminently and Jamal Lewis to join in a £13.5m transfer. And Rob Holding loan still bubbling away as well. Very good business if three (or even 4) are signed, sealed and delivered by West Ham.

Wilson is the big one though. A Premier League-ready, motivated, experienced player who – most importantly – wants to join NUFC. I am struggling to think of United ever signing a player like this under Ashley.

I’d hand him the number 9: takes pressure off Joelinton while also making clear Wilson is the main man.

I hear more could be on the way if United manage to shift some players off the books. Think another striker is needed with Dwight Gayle missing until February (maybe a loan slot to be filled?)

Pulling off all four would be a huge boost for Steve Bruce and a surprise bit of backing from Mike Ashley – who many feared would spent next to nothing once the Saudi-backed takeover fell through.

Interestingly, Bruce stated after the Stoke defeat yesterday that he was “very, very confident” on incomings and wanted “4 or 5” in before the window closed on October 5th.

With this update in mind, it sounds like he might just get his wish and target another striker after Callum Wilson should we be able to move on some deadwood.

Hopefully we can find buyers for the likes of Muto, Atsu, Saivet, Aarons and Lazaar and look to utilitise the loan market late in the window.

  1. They all said the takeover was imminent then went quiet and pointed there big fingers lol

The guys correct on this one, Wilson ready to sign, Jamal also and Fraser has signed with Holding and Eddie The striker from Arsenal on loans.
Unfortunately we need to sell either Muto or Gayle to make another permanent signing.

Good lot of business in my opinion.
