Bruce confirms 2 new injuries after Spurs draw – & says star man could also miss cup clash

Steve Bruce fears Matt Ritchie could need treatment after suffering a painful looking shoulder injury in today’s 1-1 draw with Spurs.

The NUFC boss admits his shoulder is ‘not looking good’ with The Athletic’s Chris Waugh revealing after the game that Bruce fears he’ll need surgery – something that could keep him out for a few months if Fabian Schar’s similar injury over Project Restart is anything to go by.

Elsewhere, Bruce admits that Ryan Fraser missed out today due to a ‘groin injury’, with him and Allan Saint-Maximin (ankle) now at risk of missing Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash with Newport after new setbacks.

Here’s what he’s had to say on all three:

“We’ll see how Allan [Saint-Maximin] and Ryan Fraser are for Wednesday.

“Allan has tweaked his ankle and Ryan has a bit of a groin injury.

“We’ve got another one with Matt Ritchie doing his shoulder.

“We’ll see how it is but it’s not looking good.”

Ritchie looked in agony after a heavy collision with Spurs’ Matt Doherty in the air.

He’s not been a regular in our side over the first few weeks of the new season and will find game time harder to come by now we’ve signed Lewis and Fraser, however he’s still an influential member of the dressing room.

Hopefully Ritchie’s shoulder isn’t as bad as first feared and our two star wingers are fit to face Burnley next weekend if not Newport in midweek.
