According to The Athletic, we’ve contacted Norwich City over a potential deal for Ben Godfrey and ‘asked for a price’.
The centre-back was tentatively linked with a possible move to St James’ Park over the summer and has been the subject of a £20m bid from Everton this week.
With that offer in mind (and the fact it’s ‘set to be rejected’), it doesn’t seem like a deal we’re likely to pull off based on the fact Bruce has been left looking for loans since spending £35m on Callum Wilson and Jamal Lewis a few weeks ago.
That said, The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell claims we have been in touch with the Canaries and have inquired regarding his asking price.
Chris Waugh has also commented on the news shared by his colleague and describes the link as an ‘interesting’ one, but ‘doubts’ we have the cash available to make it happen.
Godfrey was often left exposed in a leaky Norwich defence last season, yet still came away from their 2019/20 relegation campaign as one of their shining lights; alongside current Mag Jamal Lewis.
Unless Mike Ashley decides to pull out his wallet and surprise Steve Bruce with some additional funds, I really can’t see this one happening!
