Joelinton’s excellent performance against Crystal Palace has earned him a place in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of The Week – and a mammoth 9.42 rating bettered by just ONE player across gameweek 10.
Newcastle’s record signing arguably delivered his best performance in a black and white shirt on Friday night.
Despite a frustrating first-half, the £40 million man continued to cause problems and battled on; eventually setting up Callum Wilson for the first goal before netting himself to secure a 2-0 win.
Somehow the Brazilian was still the recipient of online abuse in the minutes after the final whistle by a small portion of NUFC fans. Fortunately his inclusion in the team of the week with a rating of 9.42 proves that they were in fact objectively wrong.
Here’s WhoScored’s TOTW in full, with the leading football stat-site highlighting how influential he was:
As you can see above, his rating was the second highest in the entire league this week; eclipsing stars such as Kevin De Bruyne, Edinson Cavani and Jack Grealish.
Only Riyad Mahrez scored a better rating than Joelinton, scoring a hat-trick against Burnley.
Good to see our number-nine flying the flag up front for Newcastle United! Let’s hope he can build on this.
