New report reveals NUFC’s stance on West Brom clash, Covid outbreak & return to training

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United chiefs are ‘hopeful’ Saturday’s clash with West Brom will go ahead as planned.

This comes despite The Telegraph reporting earlier today that the game was at risk of being postponed after the training ground remained shut on Monday, with Covid cases said to be ‘well into double figures’.

That said, The Chronicle reveal that those in the Toon squad who’ve tested negative are hoping to return to training at the Benton base tomorrow.

This will all depend on the results that come back following the latest set of Covid test done on Monday morning, however it’s said that NUFC officials believe a section of Bruce’s squad will be able to get back to it on Tuesday – meaning it could be “game on” against the Baggies this weekend.

Considering we’ve been unable to train properly since November 26th in the build up to that 0-2 win at Crystal Palace, we could do with the Benton base reopening ASAP.

Tomorrow looks set to be a big day. Either a section of the squad train and Benton reopens, or more test positive, it remains closed and the Saturday’s game is plunged back into serious doubt.

Fingers crossed!
