The embarrassing 23-second clip that sums up Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United – Video

In case you missed it, there was a 23-second spell of play last night that sums up everything about Newcastle fans’ frustrations under Steve Bruce.

In this clip, we have a corner kick – undoubtedly a troubling position for Brentford defensively and a direct chance for us to score a goal.

The resulting corner is booted into touch by a Bees player out for a throw. Another dangerous position on the left flank you’d think, but what follows is actually pretty infuriating to watch.

Almiron, one of our most offensive players, launches the ball 30 yards back to Lewis, who then goes all the way back to Darlow – killing the attack in seconds and ultimately doing Brentford’s job for them.

Watch it for yourself here:

What makes it even worse is it happened again!

Negative, boring, frustrating, dross.

Are the players being coached to do this or are they seriously that scared to attack? I think we know which one is likely the answer.

Our players being told in the pre match press conference that “they might lack a little bit of quality now & then & give the ball away too cheaply at times, but you can’t question their attitude to stay with it” probably doesn’t fill them with confidence to get forward either.

I can accept boring football – as long as there’s a sustainable plan to win you games. Playing in this manner certainly isn’t going to create chances, never mind win us games.

  1. Calling himself a Geordie is embarrasing enough but he’s nowt more than a Mackem Manc.
I thought it would be difficult to despise a person more than Ashley,—aparrently not..!

  2. Why blame Bruce?

    He’s not on the pitch.

The players are making those decisions. It’s the individuals not the manager.

    You’re talking absolute sh!te.

  4. Bruce looks like a defender, has a mindset of a defender, and has the management skills of a defender ie. none. The players are not playing for him because of his style of play which has no direction other than sideways and backwards.
How some of these so called football pundits can defend his record is beyond me, he has been the luckiest manager in Newcastle’s history, but luck doesn’t last forever…. see you in the Championship next season!
