Steve Bruce ‘interested’ in raiding former club of highly-rated defender – Report

The Telegraph report that Steve Bruce is keeping a close eye on Hull City centre-back Jacob Greaves.

The 20-year-old has been one of the Tiger’s standout players so far this season, helping them move up to 2nd in League One following their recent relegation from the Championship.

Mike McGrath’s piece for The Telegraph states that we are one of several clubs who’ve been scouting the 6ft 2′ defender, with a host of Championship sides also keeping tabs on the Englishman.

After a successful loan spell in League Two with Cheltenham Town last season, Greaves was promoted from Hull’s U-23’s and handed a chance to shine in their senior set up ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Since then he’s nailed down a place in Grant McCann’s promotion-chasing side, playing 14 times so far and starting in all of their last nine league games.

Although we’re well stocked at centre-back, it is worth noting that a host of our current options are entering the twilight years of their careers, with Jamaal Lascelles (27) the only player in this position who’s under the age of 29.

Local lad Kell Watts is impressing in League One with Plymouth and could be given a chance to prove himself in pre-season, but Greaves could be another future star and someone we could sign and send back to Hull on loan?

One to watch!
