Newcastle now face competition from TWO Premier League clubs to sign Jetro Willems – Report

According to the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United are exploring the possibility of a January return for Jetro Willems – however they now face competition.

Miles Starforth’s latest piece claims that TWO other Premier League clubs are also aware of the Dutchman’s availability, with the left-back pushing to leave this month.

The 26-year-old has rejected a contract offer from the Bundesliga side and is out of contract this summer.

As a result, the Shields Gazette claim Eintracht Frankfurt could even sanction another loan exit this month – allowing them to save on wages before he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

Crucially, the piece also states that Willems is ‘keen’ on a return to Tyneside, although this has almost become common knowledge based on several hints from the full-back over the past 12 months!

You’d think this is now a no-brainer for us IF he really is available on loan. His lack of match fitness may be an issue, but a deal until the end of the season would give us the perfect opportunity to see if he ha made a full recovery from that season-ending ACL injury this time last year.

That being said, he’ll want to sort out his future sooner rather than later and won’t wait on us to make our minds up forever, so let’s hope talk of rival interest from fellow Premier League clubs forces us into action.

We may prefer a loan move for Man Utd’s Brandon Williams – based on his versatility and ready to play straight away – and could be waiting to see if that avenue is a total no-go before we turn to Willems?

Time will tell, but it seems the former NUFC loanee may now have a few options…
