Andros Townsend says this latest Steve Bruce story has been “blown out of proportion” – Video

Former Toon winger Andros Townsend has defended Steve Bruce on the back of Craig Hope’s latest ‘exclusive’ on the lack of training scheduled over the international break.

His new piece for The Mail revealed that our squad are set to have SIX days off over a nine day period – a report that was met with anger and bemusement across the Newcastle United fanbase on social media.

Many have criticised this as lazy management, especially considering where we currently lie in the table and the poor run of form we have been on, however Townsend insists this is the norm in the Premier League and that supporters shouldn’t be too surprised at the news.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s breakfast show, the Crystal Palace man said that the story has “been blown out of proportion” and that “every club has been given six days off”.

Maybe most clubs have been handed six days off, but it’s not like every club out there are in a relegation battle, on the back of a 3-0 defeat at Brighton, a run of TWO wins in 20 or managed by a man who should be fighting to save his job – not taking a break that he most definitely hasn’t earned.

Hope’s ‘exclusive’ certainly came across as alarming to me, and made me angry at how little work appears to be put in towards our survival effort.

Saying that, some Townsend’s comments have made me question whether we sometimes read too much into things as fans – especially when it doesn’t take much for a certain Steve Bruce to rile us.

Regardless, no stone should be left unturned to help us stay in the top flight and if it were me, I’d have the players working overtime to give us the best possible chance.

  1. Give it a rest FFS. What else are you going to complain about that Bruce does that every body else does?

EVERYBODY is taking 6 days off. That includes us, West Brom, Fulham, Brighton, Burnley and Southampton. All the other teams that could be dragged into a relegation scrap are also taking AT LEAST 6 days off. It’s normal.

It was reported in the Bugle that Bruce had 2 sugars in his coffee – maybe you should write an article on that, saying he’s not trying enough?
Or that he listens to the radio in the shower?

    Get a fucking life man.
