The picture that might just save Newcastle United’s season and Steve Bruce’s bacon…

Newcastle United’s media team have teased supporters with an uplifting image of Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson being back on the training ground.

The pair have been crocked for our last four games, with Wilson serving a lengthier spell on the sidelines having been injured against Southampton on February 6.

To say we have struggled since would be an understatement; failing to win in any of our matches and at times looking like we couldn’t even muster a shot on goal.

No outlet up front, no attacking spark and ultimately no hope has been the case in their absence, but does this picture give fans something to shout about as we head into the final lap on the season?

Here is what @NUFC posted last night, suggesting both are in with a real chance of being fit for next weekend’s clash with Spurs:

It is unclear whether they are taking part in full training or not. If I were to guess, they have probably started light cardio work to regain fitness and as both of them are in the same boat, they are likely training together.

With football being in the middle of an international break, could we possibly see both of them in action against Spurs on April 4th?

It would certainly give us a boost. The thought of seeing us play with no goal threat again frightens me but I would rather we got them back to full fitness before risking the pair by throwing them straight in the deep end.

Saint-Maximin especially has been made of glass this season and if anybody has the talent to pull us to safety – it’s him.

Wilson is a proven goal scorer at Premier League level, something that other sides in the dogfight don’t have.

Get both fit and firing and we might not be dead and they might just save Bruce’s bacon and stop us from sliding into the second tier for the third time under Mike Ashley’s miserable ownership.
