Steve Bruce has confirmed that Jamaal Lascelles may have suffered a stress fracture in his foot – and it’s feared the skipper could miss the remainder of the season as a result.
He has already been ruled out of this Sunday’s crucial clash with Burnley, with Bruce revealing that he’ll have more scans over the weekend to determine the severity of the injury.
Unfortunately, it’s clear the early signs are worrying, with the NUFC boss stating “it’s not looking so good at the moment” when it comes to this latest injury blow.
Here’s what Bruce has had to say:
“The disappointing thing is we’ve lost Jamaal Lascelles with a foot injury which happened last week against Spurs.
“It’s not looking so good at the moment.
“He’s going to have more scans over the weekend but we think it may be a stress fracture.”
“That is a blow to us, leaves us a bit light at centre back.”
We’re fortunate that Federico Fernandez may be able to step in this weekend, but the Argentine hasn’t played since January – not to mention the fact Lascelles’ aerial dominance would’ve been key against a big Burnley side.
With Isaac Hayden ruled out for the remainder of the season last month and fellow centre-back Fabian Schar unlikely to play again this season, it’s another cruel blow to potentially lose a key player for the remainder of this relegation run in.
