Jamie Carragher responds to Jose Mourinho rumours as NUFC fans send message to ex-Spurs boss

Jamie Carragher believes self-confessed ‘little Magpie’ Jose Mourinho would NOT manage a mid-table Premier League club, pouring cold water on suggestions he could fancy a move to Newcastle United.

Mourinho’s connection with Sir Bobby Robson, appreciation for Newcastle fans and well documented love for St James’ Park has seen many Mags urge us to make a move, with him now available after being sacked by Spurs on Monday.

For now, it feels like Bruce is here to stay until Ashley sells up, but there’s been an outcry for Mourinho’s arrival from fans and journalist on social media should new owners arrive.

That said, Carragher believes the ‘special one’ won’t manage again in the Premier League – instead tipping him for international football or a return to Serie A.

Here’s what the Sky Sports pundit had to say on Monday Night Football:

“I don’t see Mourinho back in the Premier League.

“I do think that ship has sailed now.

“I struggle to think of any club he’d take…he’s been at Spurs so he’s never going to go to Arsenal. He’s been at United so he’s never going to City. Liverpool wouldn’t have him.

“But would Jose go to a middle of the table club? I just don’t see Jose there. I really don’t.

“I think it’s either international football or maybe going back to the Italian League…where the Italian Champions this year are going to be Inter Milan, with a manager in Antonio Conte who plays his type of football.

“Maybe you can get away with that type of football a little bit more as it was certainly a turn off for Spurs supporters.”

Mourinho’s recent stints with Man Utd and Spurs have left many wondering if he’s lost that magic touch, but I for one would love to see him in charge of Newcastle United one day.

He became a ‘little Magpie’ through the late, great Sir Bobby Robson and could be the perfect fit for an underachieving club that clearly holds a special place in his heart.

  1. I love the way you imply Newcastle are a “middle of the table” club.
    Now there’s optimism for you.

When we needed a new manager before Rafa came in I was hoping for Moyes.

There are managers who can manage on limited resources and BUILD a team(Moyes), then there are managers who need millions so they can BUY a team (Rafa).

Mourinho is the latter, and even then, only under the right conditions.
Can you imagine him coming into Newcastle, no budget, and giving his forthright opinions on the likes of Ritchie, Shelvey and a few others.

    I don’t think so.
