NUFC’s most improved player set for talks after Premier League duo make moves – Report

Newcastle United are set to ‘open talks’ with Jacob Murphy over a new contract, according to The Sun.

With him nearing the end of his contract, the report states that newly promoted Watford and Burnley are ‘leading the race’ for his signature this summer – a situation that may have kicked Lee Charnley into action.

The winger-turned-wing-back has had a resurgence this season at right wing-back, leading many Toon fans to demand that we tie him down on a longer deal.

Here is a snippet from The Sun’s piece:

“Newcastle will open talks with Jacob Murphy over a new deal — as Burnley and Watford lead the race to sign him.

“Murphy, 26, is entering the last year of his contract and Toon chiefs want to tie him down given his impressive recent form.”

Murphy was surplus to requirements this time last year and on the verge of leaving having been forced out on loan to multiple Championship level sides since his arrival in 2016.

With nobody managing to cement themselves as our first choice right-back, he has made the position his own and flourished when asked to play there as part of a back five.

An extended stay now looks logical and, while still only 26, he could have a big part to play for us in the next few seasons.

  1. It would take more than a kick to get Charnley to move his backside, more like a stick of dynamite ? and no doubt he will be haggling over pennies!
