Allan Saint-Maximin addresses his future at Newcastle after Bruce admits interest is ‘inevitable’

Allan Saint-Maximin insists he is “really happy” at Newcastle United and keen to see the club kick on – believing we are capable of much more than fighting to stay up each season.

This comes after Steve Bruce accepted in a recent press conference that it’s ‘inevitable’ we’ll receive interest in the Frenchman, despite stating we have no intention of losing our best players this summer.

As for Saint-Maximin himself, he’s clearly enjoying his role at the club and seems keen to be part of something good at St James’ Park – although it is quite telling that he points towards progression, not being part of a relegation battle year upon year.

Here’s what he’s had to say when speaking to the club’s programme:

“I’m really happy.

“My ambition is to go up with the club.

“I hope we don’t fight again to not go down.

“For me, Newcastle should not have to fight for this you know?”

“The most important is to do exactly what you do in training in the game.

“If in training we play really, really great football, we have to the same in a game

“It’s what I say always when we talk with the players and everything – we have a good team, you know, but in the Premier League, it’s not enough to only have a good team.

“Every team has some good players and play well.”

“If you see when I play in my position, number 10, it is more easy for me to help my team play good football.

“That’s why I hope I keep going to play in my position to help my team as much as possible.

Saint-Maximin is adored on Tyneside, a special talent and without doubt our biggest asset, but there’s only so long you can keep a hold of players with his ability if our ambition doesn’t match his potential.

It’s great to hear he’s happy at the club and only focused on kicking on over the coming seasons, however there’s a feeling amongst the fanbase that we’ll only become a ‘top 10’ side if we replace Steve Bruce with a manager far more capable of getting the best out of this talented group of players.

I just hope new owners, new ideas and a fresh injection of much needed ambition arrives before a club tests Mike Ashley’s resolve with a big bid for the priceless Frenchman!

  1. He’d be gone like a flash if a half decent team came in for him.
Not only sold by the club but he’d be up for it too.

It’s standard footballer talk – I’m happy here, the fans are great, the city’s fantastic, Liverpool? How much? See you tomorrow!
