The Athletic have today revealed a new name attracting interest from Newcastle United ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
According to David Ornstein, we are one of several Premier League clubs looking at Marc Guehi – the Chelsea centre-back who has enjoyed an outstanding loan spell at Swansea this season.
He reports that Newcastle, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Southampton are all showing interest in the 20-year-old, with Swansea also desperate to bring him back to the Liberty Stadium should they win promotion back to the top flight via the play offs.
Guehi has been a key part in the Swans’ 4th place finish, helping Newcastle United loanee Freddie Woodman keep an incredible 20 clean sheets over the 2020/21 campaign.
The Athletic claim that Newcastle and West Ham appear ‘less likely’ destinations at this stage, however his name could be one to watch this summer – especially when we are likely to be on the look out for low-cost loan deals able to add some pace and athleticism to our ageing back line.
Having drawn comparisons to former Steve Bruce target Fikayo Tomori – a fellow Chelsea CB whose stock went up considerably after a similarly impressive spell in the second tier with Derby – it is no surprise to see he is a player on our radar.
